I have been around motorcycles most of my life and raced motocross in the late 70's, early 80's. Have had mostly vintage stuff in recent years and just traded my 75 BMW R90/6 for a new to me Uly. Super stoked!

Been riding it for about a week and feel like I can start asking questions...

Current status:
1.Starts easily
2.Grumpy when cold (Check engine light pops on and off periodically)
3.Cruises all right (after I did a TPS reset)
4.Headlight seems to have a loose wire somewhere. (flickers on and off occasionally)
5.Runs great when warmed up but seems to stumble off the bottom end.
6.I've been told that the ECM has been re-mapped by the good people at Drummer?

Thanks,
Claude

1. Make sure battery connections are tight. If you can force them to move with your fingers put a star washer on them, also the bolts were just a little long in the battery post to where they bottom out as they tighten.

2. Headlight ground wire behind headlights on steering neck will break at bolt.

3. Stumble could be caused by open pipe and ECM not being tuned together correctly. Did you do TPS with warmed up engine and clean throttle plate with carb cleaner?

4.Welcome to BadWeB.....and.....that thing looks like a TANK! Cool.

Hey thanks, no I actually did the TPS when cold... didn't realize it needed to be warmed up. I'll check the throttle plate as well. I have a factory manual so I'll dig into it.

Thanks again. Love this bike... been looking for longer ways to get to and from work Ha-Ha.

Yes... the saddle bag rack is amazingly well built and acts as a bash bar for the tail section. There is a metal plate that is welded between the two sides of the rack that the box is bolted to it. Very nicely done.

I was going to take it off at first, then it grew on me because it worked so well. Might be a good place to store a mini air compressor or jumper cables or ???

That thing looks military tough. Enjoy it!
My '06 is stock save for a K&N air filter, so can't comment on right cal for a Drummer.
Perhaps get a tuning tool so you can check out the maps if you are comfortable with that sort of thing? ECMSpy or TunerPro (if you are more tech savvy).
I was headed down that path until a co-worker took a look at my static timing and found it was quite a ways off (Pinging issue, not hesitation).

Welcome to badweb, boondocker! It'll be everything you've ever dreamt of. Was previous owner a badweb member? A list supplied of mods that have been done to this bike? Make a big list of what you have, a bigger list of what you want and go from there. Good luck and best wishes!

Cool, I would love to see some more pictures of it sometime. That front fender is interesting too, any ideas of what brand? I may have to try those on mine.

#2.. I always let bike warm up and idle down before riding..It took several minutes after lots of coughing and sputtering the ECU figures out all the temps and ran smooth from that point.. I read somewhere the plugs can foul if you don't give proper warm up sequence.

i'd like more info on the rear toolbox. maybe closer photos and some measurements or product info.looks as if it could have been a touratech test mule. welcome to the buell community. Enjoy

the ground wire at the steering head and ecm relocation are required modifications as well as 77 connector and get a '10 rear wheel with double bearings, (the wheel doesn't appear uly issue) and i think silver axle indicates pre-"10 wheel

Aerostich has a small box you can get to put behind the plate, but it looks like it is smaller than the one on OPs bike.

I recently discovered that headlight flickering can be from a dirty/loose/worn ignition switch. For me, the key was finding out that the tail light flickered too. The common element was the ignition switch, which may be disassembled and cleaned.

Welcome to Ulyworld

I like those fork covers. Does anyone know what they are or where I can get some? Also florida gives you the benefit of riding most of the year when it's not a hurricane, be glad your not from up north where it's cold a heck and windy.

From the pic, the fork covers appear to be Dirt Skins brand, available from a variety of retailers or straight from the source. I have seen people on here use the Moose Racing brand as well.
