After many months of riding the bike with a bad (slow punctures made the handling crap) rear tire I "bit the bullet" and fitted a new one. The problem is that I had been messing, bad mistake, with my set up and the bike no longer rode the way I wanted with the new rubber. Long story short I have now done the final adjustments and she rides like a dream again. I find that there are two main things that affect the handling of this bike. One is tire pressures and that will be felt depending on which brand of tire you use. The other is the rear pre load and that will depend on the rider/ other weight. Like other bikes they work in conjunction with each other but on the Buell it seems to be more important to get it right. Just a couple of psi, do it on hot rubber, and twists of the pre load adjuster (love the remote) can hugely transform the bikes handling as this effects the steering head angle as well. If not enough the front end can feel vague and slow to react, to much and the front will feel to fast and unstable. That is for the latter off set axle forks not the 06 bikes. It would be good to able to compare this bikes balance and handling to another but I have never rode one that is anything like as close. That and the near perfect fueling of a 10 bike makes for me, with a few mods, a joy to ride. And YES that stupid smile is back again. | ||

So "permagrin" returns!  I fought a slow leaking rear tire for a couple thousand miles once also. Ya hate to give up an otherwise good tire, but it truly becomes a pain in the ass to keep things smooth and feeling right. My '06 must be one of the lucky ones as far as fuel mapping. I have had other problems, but mine has always run smoothly from above idle up. I have ridden others that were rough below 2500, that has never been the case with mine though. And a few other riders have tried my bike to say it is much smoother than theirs. I do need to revisit my fork oil level. Since I changed the oil while installing new seals, it has not felt the same as it was from new. I followed the instructions on oil depth measurements to have it feel like a little more oil would be a good thing. I need that "corner carving" feel back rather than the current "corner cutting" feel. | ||

My 06' has been a stellar ride for over 43,000 miles. Best year for ULY is the 1st year they were being made. Mine has the original fan and never a head leak. Worst thing is that I had to change out the 02 sensor and fork seals a few times. I test road a $39,000 Ultra Limited yesterday because the local Harley dealer has the Harley demo semi there for the weekend. It was nice for sure but when I got back from the fairly long demo and climbed on my ULY I had zero regrets and actually was glad to be back on a bike 1/2 the weight of that ULTRA. I told the wife that maybe next year Buell might be coming out with my next bike the AX. I'll have had the ULY for 10 years when November of 2015 comes around so I just might be due for new wheels. I imagine that I will have a hard time parting with my ULY though. Maybe I'll keep it. We shall make that decision when the time comes. | ||

I agree the '06 Ulys are the best. Mine has been a great bike. As for fueling, it will cough when cold but other than that, I can cruise along at 1800 rpm. After riding Rubberdown's K1600GT I could see myself moving on to bigger and better things but not any time soon, funds for play things just not there right now. As for the Uly, it's showing its age but I am glad it has been my main ride for all this time. | ||

The fuelling on my 06 Uly is perfect too. Pulls smoothly in top from 1500 rpm without a glitch. Lower if I really want to. No rough spots anywhere in the rev range. Have we any idea what the AX will look like yet? | ||

I had no problems with 06 bike, once the earth point was fixed, and that is the point because if not there is something wrong and IT IS NOT the "nature" of the bike either. "Since I changed the oil while installing new seals, it has not felt the same as it was from new. I need that "corner carving" feel back rather than the current "corner cutting" feel". There is a good chance that you made adjustments, over time, to compensate for oil degradation and wear in the suspension. I think it is only a "set up" thing but if you need help then let me know. | ||

My 06 has a stumble or 'cough' when it is cold,but otherwise very smooth and responsive. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", or some would say "If it ain't broke, work on it until it is" | ||

If you are talking about riding about a mile and a half and it "coughs" hard once, they all do that('06 bikes). If you let it warm up a little longer it won't do it at all. Thanks Ulyman. It seems to have trapped air in the forks. When standing it up from the side stand the front will drop like an inch free falling. I reset the adjusters and started over with settings. | ||

My 06 Uly used to stumble and cough until I let it warm up a little longer. Another issues is don't over rev the engine before you pull away. | ||

The bad crank was mainly the 07s but some 06s have had that failure. | ||
