I was replacing the grommet on the front rocker and by accident dropped it down the square shaft on the front rocker cover.

I cannot reach down there and have tried a coat hanger to reach it but its impossible as the frame is in the way. If i leave it down there is it ok? Will it melt or block anything?

I'm sorry, I was swapping the pcv grommet and it fell down the square hole in front of it. I think there is a sensor down there. I guess it wont melt from the heat as it was designed to fit in the top of the rocker and I won't hear it rattle as it is rubber. It's just irritating I cannot get it out and I know it's there.

From the front, above the header pipe, you can look under the rocker box (remove the clutch cable holder bracket).

Pull the front spark plug, you might be able to hook it out from that side.

I replaced it with an oem pcv. I had broke the old one by accident. There is no way to get to the hole the spark plug side.

"I guess it wont melt from the heat as it was designed to fit in the top of the rocker and I won't hear it rattle as it is rubber. It's just irritating I cannot get it out and I know it's there". Yes it will be fine.

Sometimes I have luck getting small things like that using a bit of duct tape wrapped so that the sticky side is out, then attach it to something flexible that you can feed down into the square hole. You may be able to retrieve it like that.

Sure about that?

When that type of problem happens to me, I blast down in the hole with compressed air. It may not blow the part out but it will usually re-position it. If so, maybe you could fish it out with a fine wire bent into a hook shape?

Buhler1,

Brilliant! And with the added bonus of having to explain to your girlfriend what you are doing in your garage with your motorcycle and her new pantyhose.

Advoutlander,

If you're shy about that kind of thing, the duct tape sticky side out and compressed air ideas might be worth trying first. Great ideas all actually. Then again, have you seen the thread on quantum mechanics?

There you go. Stop looking at the piece you dropped, and it'll turn back into a wave of possibilities. By attempting to retrieve it, you're collapsing the wave function.

Now I know what happened to that damn screwdriver that I JUST had in my hand five seconds ago.

Brilliant Hootowl! It also explains why that damn screwdriver eventually re-appears in the first place you looked before but couldn't find it.

You ceased to be conscious of its existence for a period, so it became a wave function, until you thought hard enough about wanting it again.
