I'm planning on 3 weeks of colorado mountain pass riding, 2 up, I'm also considering doing the cobdr. What parts, gear etc would you advise I take?

What spare fuses should I bring?

Hmm, I'd say the minimum to bring is an air pump, tire plug kit, box of assorted fuses and a spare belt. (You are very likely NOT going to find one on the road if you need it.)

Check rear wheel bearings before leaving; replace if there's any doubt as to their condition (or install a 2010 rear wheel). Make sure 77 connector has been replaced or eliminated. It's a good idea to install some sort of volt meter to keep an eye on what the charging system's doing if you haven't already. Check condition of throttle and clutch cables; replace if needed or bring spares.

Like Hugh recommends, get the 3 bearing rear wheel. http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/17330.html

I bought them for both our ULYs. Nothing worse than worrying about that rear end while on a trip. I suppose if you bought one and then sold your bike sometime in the future you could put back on the crap 2 bearing wheel and sell the 3 bearing rear wheel separately. I personally sold the 2 bearing rears cheap to other BadWebbers.

My son and I also have Shorai Lithium batteries in our bikes. Expensive but so far no regrets. For one reason or other, not sure, my son's 07 bike doesn't hesitate when the starter button is pressed but my 06' bike does when starting cold engine. Both batteries read around 13.3 volts. My bike has about 40,000 miles compared to his 18,000. Great bikes. Wish Buell would either shiite or get off the pot with the vaporous AX model. On a side note, my wife said I should buy a Zero electric bike. How many wives would give permission for something like that? I told her I'd love to have one but I have too many bikes in our garage as is. She said to get rid of the 97' bagger and that would make room. Nope, ain't going to happen .... yet.

Speaking of 2 bearing rear wheels.........
I'm still looking for a cheap one to experiment with, for my 06 Uly. Want to try a Timken type set-up.

i've got the tire repair kit/inlator, belt on the list. What type of fuses does the bike use? Same style as car fuses?

The rear wheel bearings are ok, I will bring a spare front and rear.

What is the 77 connector?

The 77 connector goes between the alternator and the regulator. For some reason, they were failure prone.
They did something different with that connection in 2008.
What exactly did they do in 2008 and up?
I don't know because it seems to have worked.

The "77" is found under the front sprocket cover.

The XB's use mini-blade fuses, same as most modern cars. On a related note, there are 4 relays on the fuse block under the seat. All 4 are identical and are common with some late model Ford relays if you ever need an emergency replacement on the road.

There are many threads here about problems with the 77 connector. There was an upgraded plug available from the factory; some people just cut out the plug and hard-wired the connections. Since your bike is a 2006 model, odds are pretty good someone's already repaired or replaced it.

The 2008-up bikes dropped the higher output 3-phase alternator in favor of a lower output single phase alternator. I'm not even sure what the connector looks like on these engines, but it AFAIK nobody's ever had one fail.

The 77 connection is what connects the Voltage Regulator to the battery, it has nothing to do with the stator/alternator.

The connector used on 03-07 models was a bit sub par, and would not always make a solid connection. The electrical current would arc as it jumped across the connection, eventually melting it and breaking the flow of power to the battery. As the battery will no longer charge, the fuel system will eventually shut down.

Buell eventually released a kit with new design of connectors, and if you get a new VR it will have the new connector on it and it comes with the other end to retrofit on the bike.

The 08+ bikes came with a totally different charging system and connections.

Get spare keys made at a competent locksmith shop-key blank is similar to a volvo, IIRC. I bought my blanks on ebay and took them to the locksmith to have them cut. We also got copies made at the same shop for the factory cases.

Is it worth buying a spare throttle cable? I have a spare clutch cable and drive belt but is it know for the throttle cable to break?

The one on my XB9SX needed to be replaced at close to 30k miles. Come to think of it, the one on my Uly did also, but that's only because it got chewed on by a corolla.
