About 7 pm last night we spotted a black uly with no topcase at the shell station in Laporte. We would have stopped to say hi but were enroute to a function with our son. We have been spotting different xb's around town a couple times a week, and one 1125 but this was our first Uly sighting (besides our garage...duh) since we've been here.

Anyone on badweb?

Cool to hear from someone that knows the area, Boyd! It seems that only FOCO people and anyone who paid attention to last years fires know about Laporte. Perhaps some bluegrass or country musicians know about it too (great local music scene here and in Bellvue), but that is about it.

Agree with you on the good roads round these parts. Even better when more rain washes sand off the mountain roads.

People really seem to like it here. Hope it was a great job or family or something important that drew you to to so cal. B.

I was in Laporte Sunday evening for a funeral.
My Uly was at the American Legion hall, then Sol's Long Branch.

dunno who you saw.

Belinda - we're in Longmont, if you're still in the area, stop by the shop(see my profile) and say Hi.
I'd love to meet y'all.

Zack

If you are talking about the Shell station that is also Vern's, you need to bookmark it for breakfast sometime. Mmmm.

There are quite a few Buellers around, otoh maybe I see more than normal since I only live a couple miles away from High Country H-D in Firestone. /shrug

I think she was talking about the station in "downtown" Laporte, across the street from the Long Branch. I think it's a Shell.
Vern's has EPIC cinnamon rolls, so does Johnson's Corner off I-25 at Hwy 60. mmmm yum. more butter is better.

I am constantly amazed at how many Buells are out here.
I am surprised when I don't see one when I go out.

I have had 2 days off so far this year, so I'm there pretty much every day. 8/9 am to 6/8 pm
Dan usually takes Sundays off but he's a workaholic too.

I guess I do pretty good headwork as I'm constantly porting.... my hands hurt a little.
Finally slowing down a bit, I'll get a chance to work on Loretta soon. I hope...

I worked at High Country for 3-1/2 years... beans & rice wages.
They have some good mechanics, but I won't recommend them.
I HATE work politics...

High country sucks. I bought a 2009 1125cr from them. The stator went bad. They replaced it and scratched the frame while doing it. I asked them to make it right. Eloy said no. Sorry. Nothing they could do for me. I sold the bike a couple weeks later. Nothing good to say about that place.

Shortly after I started working at High Country, I did the first valve check service in my garage. <edit> on Loretta, my 08 1125R
I found a delaminating exhaust cam and approached Eloy about warranty repair.
He asked me how I knew it was a bad cam and I showed him a picture on my iPhone.
"How'd you get that pic?' he asked.
When I told him I found it while doing the 12k service, he said"Oh, if you're doing your own service, I can't warranty the bike".

I smiled and went home to call Buell customer service.
Eloy didn't know I was on the "infant care" program with Buell.
The next day H.C. got a call from Buell to fix my bike fast.

When she arrived, Eloy was looking the bike over and asked why I wrote on the airbox.
I told him to look again.

"If you are talking about the Shell station that is also Vern's, you need to bookmark it for breakfast sometime. Mmmm."

We stopped at Vern's for lunch one day after skiing. It was very tasty. I've not had the rolls as I try not to eat too many sweets but our son loves them.

"it was for a good job"

That seems to be the common thread for people that leave and a number of people I've spoken with would not consider leaving even if it was a spectacular job opportunity. When I returned to Florida after visiting CO last summer, I missed it, so I came back. It was hard to leave a job I loved, but most other aspects of Florida lost their luster.

"I think she was talking about the station in "downtown" Laporte, across the street from the Long Branch. I think it's a Shell."

You got it! Although if the Long Branch was a honky tonk type place, it may now be called the Swing Station. The SS has very good beer and music and a clientele consisting of bicyclists, students, ranchers, retirees, mountain people. It's one of our new favorite local haunts.

"Always nice to have a trump card when engaging in politics.."

+1.

No, the Swing Station is the "new" bar in town.
The Long Branch is katty-corner from it and has been there 30+ years. a little seedier clientele. : )

The SS is fitting for us being we are also newbies. Looking forward to checking out the Long Branch, we are not skeered of seedier clientele : )

Hi Jeff! So glad you posted up. Can it get any better: another local Uly rider who is local AND on Badweb?!

It might get better. It was my ride thru Rist Canyon with a helmet cam that sealed the deal on our decision to move out here. My hubby had not ever been to Colorado and was not able to be here last summer, so I slapped a helmet cam on and upon returning to FL, showed him video of some of the area's roads. Once he saw the video, he was in. People ask why we moved here after so many years and the canned response is "better schools". And although the schools excuse is not untrue, people who know us are aware of another real reason: "the roads".

You live in a fantastic area.

We really love NOCO and have many roads to explore. Being from MN originally, we really missed the seasons when we were in FL and are happy to be here.

May be cool to plan a ride sometime. We are just off 287.

I have lived in SE MN all my life but when I retire, I want to move to the Colorado Springs area, if I can convince my wife to go. Maybe even if I can't.

I have been there on the bike and a few times in cars and it is absolutely the most beautiful state in the country! Those curvy mountain roads are awesome!

Colorado Springs is awesome too! Pikes Peak, the USAFA and Garden of the Gods are fantastic. Anywhere in CO would be great to retire given the quality of life and low (er) taxes. I can't imagine anyone who would not want to be there for retirement unless they had issues with the altitude, cooler weather or arid climate. Has your wife visited? My hubby moved here site unseen but he is a different kinda critter (and yes rides a Buell too : ))

"I have been there on the bike and a few times in cars and it is absolutely the most beautiful state in the country! Those curvy mountain roads are awesome!"

The roads are awesome indeed and the scenery is breathtaking. I'd been obsessing over these roads since I first visited in '96. There is always something to do, riding or otherwise, and even though we have had a week or two at a stretch where the weather did not cooperate for riding in Colorado, we've ridden at least a little each month this year.

No complaints from me : ) : ) : )

Actually yes, my wife was with me on most of my trips to Colorado and she likes it as much as I do. The problem is that she has strong family ties in this area of MN and IA. So, I'm guessing we will always live around here but Colorado can be our vacation destination. Or maybe vice-versa? Hmmmmmmm.....
