I cut open a trashed race ECM to see if I can't fix the solder joints and my question is what do I use to dissolve the glue that's holding on the rubber?
Thanks in advance!

I used an Exacto #2 blade remove the potting compound.
When I got it down to the solder joints. I got after it with a small stainless steel wire brush.

I also suggest using a magnifying glass when doing this repair.

I've been using Goo Gone all day which seems to have done the trick.
I do a fair amount of soldering on stereo gear so I'll use the magnifier and the soldering station. It would be nice if I could fix this one as the replacement is acting up despite being relocated as far away from the seat as possible.

You should be good to go, with the skills you indicate.

The only thing that I would do different would be to make the repairs with the solder side down.
The last thing needed is a solder flood and shorted terminals on the opposite side of the PCB.

We'll see!
If things go totally south I'm no worse off than I am right now.

Depending on what you find once you rack it up...grab a solder-sucker and pull all the old out, and re-flow every joint with new solder.

Never know if it was a "bad recipe" in the solder they used, that makes it susceptible to cracking...

I didn't see any cracking but when this one was in operation the motor would cut out when I'd wiggle the light grey connection.
After much screwing around I'm afraid it's no dice.
I guess this one stays on the Shelf of Shame.
Oh well - time to see why the S2 doesn't have any working turn signals and then I can get the Purple Nurple on the road this year.

Just remember the S2 has the HD TSM (Turn Signal Module), ties not only into the signal buttons but also the speedo feed for the distance-cancel.

See if you have four-ways. If that works, you probably have an issue with the speedo input. I've seen guys clip the wire for that function, and the system works...you just have to remember to cancel your signals (like on any other Buell).

Thanks, it looks like there's a 3 prong sugar cube relay back behind the battery.
I have to order a new battery and I'll take it from there.
I put an S3 motor in there and then it's been parked ever since. It's time to get that one on the road again real soon.
Look for a NEED HELP post in the Old School Buell coming soon!
