Years ago all you needed to do to charge, as all the "wet cell" type, a battery was slap on a normal charger. This is no longer the case due to the many types now available. In the case of the Uly you can only use a Gel or a AGM type, due to the position in the bike, and each needs (ideal) a diff "charge" method and you should use a charger designed for that type battery for best results and life.
I have just got one of these, a Ring RSCPR-25 Smart Charge Pro, as it is a "multi chemistry" type ie it will do all of the modern/old types of battery. Switchable amp output, battery temp compensation so it will not damage the battery, de-sulphate, re-condition, float (trickle charge) and other modes as well. Ok it does cost a LOT but if you have multi types of batteries on your bikes, cars, trucks etc it may be worth the money. I do anyway and I always like good quality tools as they last better. You will also find, as I did, that the face of the battery leads do not have a 100% surface contact on the battery posts due to there design. Cleaning off the battery posts and filing the bottom of the leads so they mate better gives a better contact. (Message edited by Uly_man on April 25, 2013) |

That's very true and a nice charger. I have converted all my vehicles to Dry Cell Odyssey batteries and they love lots of power so hit them with 12, 50, 100 watts, they love it! Totally the opposite of a lead acid battery. |

I have been using it a while now and its great. Fast and easy to use. I have checked the volt/amp output numbers, with a pro meter, and they are perfect. Runs silent and has a tender mode as well. This is a very high quality tool. A nice satin black paint job with rubber ends. Which always works for me? |

Vern, you're way off base. Tender mode is when you are trying to save an emotionally sensitive battery! Have not seen this "Ring" brand in the US, but an option I recently picked up was the Optimate line of chargers. Got a Tek Mate OptiMate 4 for well under half the price for the Ring, and it appears to check all the same boxes, plus has a feature to "wake up" CAN bus electrical systems (like on later BMW's) when trying to charge through an auxiliary power connector. They start around $65-$70 on line now. Think I paid about $74 at a Yamaha dealer in late winter. It covers all the main battery chemistry types except for the new Lithium (which are apparently not to be charged with any charger that has a de-sulphation mode, like the Optimate and Ring both have). |
