Has anyone had any experience with putting these wires on our Uly's? I'm not very satisfied with the front plug wire. These wires are longer than the OEM wires. They also have a straight boot on each end unlike the OEM wires that have an offset boot on each end. What this causes in the case of the front cylinder, is the electrical harness installed on the inside of the frame that feeds the throttle body now makes contact with the longer plug wire. I know from experience this is not a good thing on a bike with this kind of vibration. How have others circumvented this issue? I know some of you have used these wires. My only work around is to take the old boots off the old wires, cut the new wire down some and reinstall the metal crimp/connector onto the new, shorter wire and install the old boots. However I'm hesitant to start taking apart a brand new wire. I haven't messed with these connectors in years. Are they the same as they've always been? Or are they built in some permanent way that it's not recommended that one cuts down the wire. I'm talking about the new wires now. Any other ideas? Thanks | ||

I just put a set of these on my 09 last week. Yes they are a bit longer. They actually seem to fit better on my bike then the originals. I think there is a difference with the fit on the older Ulys perhaps. You could try calling them. The company seems like they would be open to feedback about the product. Perhaps they would exchange for a shortened wire? | ||

Hi Greg, I have the Magnecor 2557's on my 08 XT and I don't remember having any issues with fitting the wires, as far as length is concerned. I wonder if there is a difference between your 06 harness and my 08? The only thing that I had any concern with was the metal terminal on the coil end of the plug wire. It seemed like it was hard to tell if it was seated all the way onto the coil terminal. I'm not really sure why I put these wires on. I can't tell any difference, and did not expect to. Sure, they are a cool red color but you can't see them when the bike is assembled anyway. Too bad 'cause they do look cool! Take care, Al. | ||

My set of wire had a protection on one of them. It is supposed to fit on the front plug and it's a type of spiral plastic shield. | ||

hmmmmmm no spiral protector with these wires. Though that's almost what it needs. I just don't see the fitment of these new wires up to snuff. The rear wire is ok, not touching anything. Anyone see any problems with cutting this new wire down and installing the old boots? | ||

Before cutting the new wires down, I would try wrapping them with the spiral wire wrap. You may have to shop around a bit but you should be able to buy this at most auto parts supply houses or home improvement stores. Here is an example of some Gardner-Bender brand wrap. actually I have some of that wrap at home. However, too late. I tried to modify that new front wire yesterday. I wouldn't recommend it. The ends on the magnecores are very intricate. It's not a simple crimp like the stockers. Oh well I put the old plug wire on the front for now. Wasted a $15 plug wire I guess. But I suspect I would've had problems with this wire down the road(literally). Can't risk that. | ||

I have had a set of the wires for a couple years. Replaced the stockers because of a short when wet. Have not had any issues. | ||

Get in contact with magnecor. They might ship you a new one for little money or even free. Never hurts to ask. | ||

I installed my magnecor wires last week. Definitely longer (both were the same length, unlike stock). My front stock wire was worn half way (or more) through the insulation where it had been contacting the wire harness. The magnecor actually seemed to work better on my '06, though installing them was a real pain. They look very different in that the plug end is not really a boot, but just straight. Finally got them on enough to latch. I put some braided nylon split loom around the wires for extra protection. Just hope it holds up to the temps. It is automotive grade, so I seem to recall it was good to 300 or 400F. We will see. |
