Ok so curious, has anyone ever bought a bike far off before? Just curious of the order of operations and honestly I'm a bit nervous sending 7900 two states away,... He is a auto dealer and has websites, and his name is on the net a lot..... Pics of his business is there too,... Just wondered what kind of insurance do I need to ask for from him? I figure I need vin on bike,... Tracking on my check,.. Which is gonna be wrote to a business name not an individual and sent to an address not a po box. Anything else I can do? |

Give him a credit card for to charge for a deposit. I usually charge $500 to hold the bike. Bring the remaining balance as a certified check from a bank that operates in his area. If you are going on a weekend, make sure the bank that issues the check is open then so that you can both go to the bank and withdraw the funds. If he is a legit dealer, he should agree to this. |

I got mine in St. Louis & drove from Cincinnati trailering my old ride. I checked into the bike and dealer as much as I could before going but there can always be little surprises. I was prepared to walk away if not happy & even though the HD dealer knew less than I did about the bike I still ended up bringing her home. It would have taken a lot more confidence for me to have it shipped without seeing / riding it in person, but I'm also pretty conservative with that sort of thing. I might have considered doing a fly & ride with the option of flying back if I didn't like what I saw. For your question about bags I believe that there are smaller options, but in truth I generally take off all the luggage and framework for around town and just use the Triple Tail bag or a larger bag I purchased (non Buell HD) that also attaches to the tail. One of those 2 sizes of bags will hold anything I need short of an actual trip. When I get home tonight I'll check the brand & model of my bigger bag. |

Congrats on the Uly! I've had my '09 Blue (fastest) XT for about 4 weeks now and absolutely love it. Like Schwara, I normally ride without the cases, I've removed the rack for the top case, and simply use the TT Buell Backpack for stuff (rain gear, lunch, water, etc). The appearance of the hard cases, however, brings plenty of attention and people often ask questions about the bike. Fortunately, there's BadWeb to help me out with the answers. I've learned a TON in just a few weeks. Whatever you decide regarding the delivery/pick-up, enjoy it & ride safe! |

Well money is changed hands, title on its way. The title will get here before the bike!!! So blue is the fastest huh? I was gonna ask about that. Cause I was sort of contemplating finding some plastic to make flat black,... But I'd hate to lose any horsepower over it. (Message edited by Streetgliderx on August 15, 2012) |

even though the HD dealer knew less than I did about the bike Ha Ha, where have I heard that before? If anyone knows an H-D dealer that knows more about these bikes than the average Buell rider, please let us know..... |

I definitely know that now. At the time it was yet another learning experience for me. It seemed strange that I (not currently owning a Buell) was better able to find answers to many of my own questions than the HD guy who had the bike sitting in front of him. I considered not buying from them for that reason alone. Thank heavens I got over that. Now I have a much better understanding of how Buell is related to HD .... my battery says Harley Davidson & I buy this stuff called Formula+ which also says Harley Davidson ... & that's about it. |

All kidding aside, my H-D dealer has been very good to me when it comes to getting parts etc. I do all of my own service work so I have not had to deal with that aspect. |

Well I know my way around a sportster motor pretty well so I think I'll be handling all my own service as well. My closest dealer swapped hands and I'm pretty happy bout that cause it's a better group of folks. |

More from my previous post on bags. I have both the Buell Triple Tail bag/backpack
... not my Uly. I found this pic somewhere. I also have a larger bag which is the Nelson-Rigg Dayrunner 350.
Both attach to the triple tail. Both can be a backpack although that's not terribly practical on the NR because it can get quite heavy. I use the Buell Triple Tail bag as a backpack all the time. Both are good bags and come with their own raincovers & I have confirmed that both covers work. I probably use the Buell bag more often because it is more practical / manageable, but the NR is great for trips and you can attach other NR bags & accessories to it as well. http://www.nelsonrigg.com/store/product.aspx?pid=350 I bought the NR 350 locally for less than their website price. |
