Had my 06 Uly for going on 5 years

1st two years was only vaguely aware of the heat on the right hand side. Upon occasion would shift right foot to the end of the peg but never thought about it.

Installed the “comfort kit” two years ago, just because, not for any real reason. – Did not notice any difference & did not care.

This year really seem to feel the heat. – Fan does not seem to run more frequently but quite often I am really uncomfortable. – Run HD50 oil as I did every summer. – Always wear jeans or utilities w/ ankle hi boots when riding

In your opinion, is this phenomenon due to the fact the skin becomes more sensitive with age (I have excess age) or should I be investigating for problems? - If so what problems & how?

Now to the geeky part –
What is your opinion of somehow placing a wick in flow stream passing thru the right “comfort” air scoop & using evaporative cooling to reduce the temperature of the air flowing to the rear cylinder? - “Back in the day” they sold automotive A/C units that worked on that principal. They were placed in a side window & ram air circulated air past a wick then thru the cabin of the car.

Not sure I am up to designing a rotating wick that would fit into an existing air scoop. Anybody up to getting me started on the engineering for an arrangement that works by capillary action only?

I notice no difference except today. It was about 86 degrees and clear. I had jean shorts under my mesh/armor pants so I felt some engine heat. AND the fan running more than usual... but I usually wear Dickies HD Painters pants with Icon Field Armor Knee/Shin Guards and almost kneehigh socks, so I usually do not feel the engine heat much those days. Last year I rode in the heat, high 90's... with full gear.. traffic jam with a 1.5 hr commute had to pull over to get some water, I also had a cooling vest. The engine heat kinda blended in with the high temps that day so it wasn't an issue haha.

But,.. my first thought was you changed your oil to a different brand/type and it made a difference but you use dino only,, my other idea was it was low on oil. But you prob checked that already. Sorry no help.

They make kits for high performance turbo charged cars that releases a very fine mist in front of the aftercooler to further reduce the temperature of the intake charge. The problem is that you then have to have a water tank, misters, a pump, etc. A gallon will last a long time because the water is atomized and comes out a fairly low flow rate.

There seems to be quite a difference of opinion on the comfort kit,for me the comfort kit and odies heat blankets have completely changed my 06 and made it a non issue even when I go south into georgia and florida.
On the wick idea, would it not have less effect in high humidity conditions versus dry.

I have the Odie's Heat Blanket and the comfort kit on my 08 XT and I really believe the Odie's blanket is what is solving the heat issue for me. It prevents the heat from coming out of the gap on the top of the frame, near the rear cylinder head. I put on nearly 300 miles yesterday in the 90 degree heat and never felt any excessive heat on my right leg.

I have noticed mine is running hotter this spring. I bought a oil temp gauge dip stick and haven't seems it over 200 or so but I have no data to compare it to from previous years. I rode yesterday, mix of suburban and city riding around Cleveland and south to my town. In the city portions, my 'boys' where quite warm and the fan was on quite a bit. When I stopped, the oils temp was 190-200. The rear cylinder felt much hotter.

I have an 06 with comfort kit, right side scoop and Amzoil.

Forgot to add that mine has pinged a few times if I let it lug (2.5k or under) when it's very hot. I immediately downshift or ease off the throttle till so it stops. I know the pinging issue has been beaten to death, but I wonder if changing my plugs would help. I also have a cable from xopti, but I am lost when I look at the program. Need to read more into that. I'm sure there is something in there I could change to help it. Just afraid of hurting something with no understanding what I'm doing.

I think your best bet is to experiment with a new pair of quality riding pants. I do not wear them often, but they make a considerable difference with radiant heat.

A round wick for a oil lamp and a sacrificial camelbak water bladder and drink tube could be used for what you describe. Cut the valve off the end of the drink tube and push the wick up into the tube all the way into the bladder. Once the wick swells with the water, it should stay in place for good. You can just mount the bladder to the air box or some other unsightly place and zip tie the wick end of the hose in place while you experiment. If it makes any difference, then you can get to work finding a clever way to mount it out of sight.

Ive noticed the same heat issue lately. Mostly since i got the comfort kit. I've also noticed that on the right side, the front of the seat seems to have warped a bit causing a very small gap between the frame/tank and the seat. I wonder if the right side scoop has concentrated hot air here causing the warpage and thus more hot air to to be forced out onto my right leg.

I've ordered Odies heat kit (hope it makes it here in time for my upcoming trip).

I've considered getting the seat recovered and asking whoever is doing the work what they can do about that gap. I put a piece of aluminum ac/duct tape over the gap and it seems to help a bit (but of course looks like crap).

I've also thought about maybe trying out one of the carbon frame overlays that they sell on fleabay to see if the extra layer doesnt help to close that gap not to mention insulate a bit against the tank (which can pick up quite a bit of heat as well the closer to empty it gets). Im not sure if the carbon will fit the uly or not though...my gut instinct is that they're only for the shorter frames.

I just cleaned my oil cooler real good and noticed shorter fan run time on shutdown Every little bit helps.
