This is kind of embarrassing, but my beaver tail is stuck in the up in backrest position. and it has been more then four hours. I can't get it to slide off the spline. Used the key and a screw driver in the slot but no go. At least the Buell looks happy. |

Happened to me. Try using some penetrating oil to loosen it then use anti-seize when it is in the down position. For me it was a two person job to get it unstuck, one person to work the beaver tail loose and another to hold the uly firm on the non-sidestand side. Good luck |

Thanks I'll give that a try. Its been out in the rain a lot the last couple of weeks which probably hasn't helped. |

Get a can of silicone spray lube (less messy than oil) and stick the tube into the release and spray away, soak around the pivots too. The two person idea might be good too since you might push it off the stand while convincing the thing to move. I need to get in there someday and figure out just why these do that, worn bushings maybe? |

Bare aluminum bits. They grow fur and stick when left wet for a long time. I disabled the key on mine long ago (do a search, its on here somewhere). Now I flip the collar and just give it a firm "whack" and it comes loose. |

Disassemble the triple tail, remove the spring and the piece that the key pushes. Enjoy your 1 handed tail flipping. |

You've gotten good input,Sprintex, but here's another option once you get it 'free' and working. I sprayed white grease on the mechanisms on both sides, after reading about 'sticking' problems here on BadWeb, and after a number of riding-in-the-rain episodes all is good and it is working well. I checked it out each time and nothing changed. It continued to work! Best of luck. |

Pete - keep the latching collar in place and it won't go anywhere. |

White lithium grease works great for me too. No sticking problems since using it. Plenty of dust, dirt and rain too. |

"...my beaver tail is stuck in the up in backrest position. and it has been more then four hours." For symptoms lasting more than four hours seek medical attention right away. |

"For symptoms lasting more than four hours seek medical attention right away." OMG....very wrong, but quite funny. |

Problem solved! Gave it a soaking of WD-40 let it sit for a few days (was out riding around on my 73 F7 175) gave it a couple whacks and it now goes down! Success. |
