In follow up to my earlier question about my now confirmed ECM issue, would the dealership move/touch the ECM during the 20K service? Again, the bike was fine for years with NO ISSUES, then when I got it back after this 20K service it would stall out at speed, they reported the ECM was cracked and a replacement fixed the stalling issue, again this NEVER happened before the service. I am just trying to figure out if this is bad luck or something that might have happened before during the service? I regularly checked the ECM for contact with the seat and I never found contact marks. thanks, and if we are going to digress I prefer circus midgets to cats |

Was the tech that did the service nick-named "tiny", and did he take a test ride? |

"In follow up to my earlier question about my now confirmed ECM issue, would the dealership move/touch the ECM during the 20K service?" No as no reason to do so. |

The dealer said it was rubbing on the battery on the bottom of the ECM and that is what must have done it, the battery is aftermarket so I am not sure if it is larger than a stock HD one, I thought it was longer not wider so I will have to check on that. Guess I will look up the best place to relocate the ECM. This just sucks. |

Did you make sure to get the old broken one back? If it's cracked near the connectors, it's repairable. See this thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/674360.html?1333677598 |

Yes, I got the old one back and plan to see if I can fix it, the crack is in the rubbery material under the hard plastic case so i thinking it is the connect issue in the other threads. The dealer was very nice but it is funny how the story between the tech and the service manager were completely different, I was originally told the after market battery was the cause, but when I get there the tech says no it had to be the seat, which makes more sense. It also took them 10min to match up the rub marks on the seat with the ECM connector. But again they were very nice and took the time to explain everything and provide a plausible explanation, they did give me the HD service line number and a case file if I wanted to follow up after their communication with HD service didn't go anywhere. I ended up cutting the seat so it would not rub, I checked it with some sticky tape on the top of the gray ECM connector and after riding a bit the tape did not touch the seat. In the pic below the arrow points to the rub mark and the circle shows what I cut out, I only enlarged the hole by a quarter of an inch not the size of the full red circle. I took this pic from another post because the rub marks were so consistent with those on my seat, what a coincidence.
Here's to hoping this solves the ECM issue, I don't want to replace it again, but fully the fix of the old one works and I have a extra one. Wonder if I should also do the full ECM relocation now that it looks like the seat is on longer rubbing on the connector? |
