I was having a slight engine cut out while riding, so I decided to do some spring maintenance. I should have known something was going to go wrong. I added HID lights, adjusted the clutch/changed fluid, new plugs,new battery, and replaced my wonky voltage regulator with a new one. All in record time with no issues (a first for me).

So I button everything up, and for some reason I decided to take a close look at the ECM to see if it had any of the dreaded cracks... Yep. Now my cutting out issue suddenly made a lot of sense. So from what I can tell I have a few options;

Relocate and run it with the crack to see if it will run without the pressure on it. (oh yeah, it's an 06 and it does have the plastic riser block installed.

Find a used ECM. Haven't found one yet that wasn't as much as a new one.

Order an EBR race ECM. Only problem there is I have a stock exhaust, and I don't see the stock option listed anymore.

So what do yinz think I should do, or does anyone know where I can get a used one on the cheap?

Thanks

I think that I might have developed some small cracks along the plugs in mine before better protecting it. Since then I have mummified it in self sealing silicone tape both to hold everything together snug and make sure that moisture can't get in. I haven't had any issues with that solution yet, although I do keep my stock ECM close at hand. I'm fairly certain I've read out here that others have gotten a Race ECM tuned for the stock exhaust, but I would say to call E.B.R. or send an e-mail (or both) to check.

Check out the anatomy of a broken ecu thread.

Mine looks just like the photos.

The one in the photo and mine; I believe are repairable.

Scotty, contact EBR and ask if they have one for your setup. They're pretty flexible. I ordered one for my '08XT with stock exhaust and requested the pre comfort kit fan operation and that is what they delivered.

Well I relocated it to the space between the fuse box and battery after sealing it up. Went for a shakedown ride and everything seemed kosher. Not thrilled about it, but at least it's good until I can get an EBR ECM...

I got an EBR ECM for stock intake and exhaust and initially it ran like crap. EBR took it back and reprogrammed it twice. My bike runs fantastic now.

I am on my second ECM, it is a used one and relocated to a safe spot. Unfortunately, it too has now developed the infamous crack but on the black connector now. The seat has never touched it I swear! I dont know if I could repair it the way I have seen it on here. Anyway, I was just wondering if the EBR ECM's are constructed any different/better or are they just programmed for better performance.

I just checked the EBR site and looked for the ECM for all models. All are out of stock except for the 08 and 09 XB12 with Jardine exhaust. I am speculating that is the only option left in stock and that they will probably have more available in the future. You should contact them to be sure.

Mine was cracked when I purchased my 09 and went with the EBR for stock air filter and exhaust. I was satisfied with the stock performance but, if I recall, the EBR unit was a little cheaper than a new one from a dealer. I may be an exception but I am not satisfied with the performance. It is not as powerful as with the stock unit. I contacted them and was advised it was "tuned for driveability"

This is not intended to be a rant, just my experience. Others seem to be very satisfied.
