Time for a muffler. The stock 08 Uly is so quiet all I hear is intake noise.
My last 2 Buells were factory race kit and worked well.
Race kits do not seem to be available so I an looking at Hawk for like sound. Seems to be bad blood with this guy on the site.
Any suggestions for plug and play parts and does the flapper valve go away?

Special Ops (Odie) modifies the stock muffler and keeps the valve. If you go to American Sportbike they have a very comprehensive list of mufflers with properly tuned ECMs so you can evaluate them yourself.

I found that the Special Ops was what I was looking for. The drummer is also a very popular exhaust, it does away with the exhaust valve.

Either way, I would suggest getting an EBR ecm to go along with whatever option you chose.

Thanks for the tip. To me one of the best features of the brand is the sound.

I started stock, then had it modified to a Hawk, and I'm now running a SS Drummer. The Drummer is by far the best looking but they cost a bit unless you get a good deal. The Drummer has a good voice and runs strong too but I do miss the sound of the Hawk a bit. I'm not sure myself, but my family seems to think the Drummer isn't quite as loud. The only real downside to the Hawk, in my humble opinion of course, is that it was still based on the same original crap metal so you have the same issues with cleanup and paint every once in a while. I was originally going to have mine ceramic coated bright silver until I got a good deal on the Drummer. That is a great looking pipe cradle to grave. You are right that Randy (Hawk muffler) has some bad blood out here ... before my time. Just mentioning his name will probably catch me some flack, but I thought he was great guy to deal with personally. Give him a call with any questions and he'll spend some time with you whether you send him a muffler or not. That being said, Kevin Drum was a great guy to deal with as well. Figure out the budget you're comfortable with and then start making calls. By all means investigate here and at A.S.B. as well because there is a lot of info at both places. Feel free to send me a PM as well, and I can answer any other questions from my experiences. I second the comment on the Race ECM to go with any higher performance muffler. Keep the stock as a spare just in case.

Just realized I didn't answer one of your questions, sorry. Neither the Hawk or SS Drummer use the exhaust actuator. That was my original motivator to modify the stocker ... the actuator died, which irritated me. I figured I could pay to change that thing out or use the same $$ to modify the muffler to a design I liked better which didn't use it. I did save up a bit more and then also went with a K&N air filter and Race ECM to finish out the whole performance upgrade though ... something else to consider when you are thinking about your budget.

I am very happy with my Drummer. The valve goes away when Kevin rebuilds the exhaust. The sound is incredible. It's not quiet, but it's not obnoxious.

Something in 304 stainless? Ceramic coated in various colors?

Polished?

This one isn't an XB pipe, just black satin ceramic coated for reference.

D adams, that is one serious looking pipe. I am leaning to Drummer as I like to use the muffler as a jack point.
Thanks all for the input.
