I just bought an XB12XT with 13000 miles. A bike I have wanted for a while. I have not been able to get settled in a RPM range with vibrations, or find the sweet spot. After reading about the front mounts I decided to change mine.

It did not look broken, still had better than a 1/4 inch clearance. Showed some stress marks at the inner portion.

I can't believe what a difference it made. Smooth from 2500rpms and up. I did not expect much difference since it was not broken but it was a huge difference. I guess even stretched worn rubber causes more vibes.

Funny, I just did the same recently.
I have 25.6k miles on an 09 XB12X and the mount was the original.
Tiny tear in the rubber, less than 60 thou deep and absolutely no difference in ride.
I am Froggy sized tho at 165 in gear...

I put the old one back on and put the new one on the shelf for when this one really dies.

Palmer Products lists a product called Front mount saver. A rubber donut to provide extra support. Seems like a good idea. Has anyone tried it,-good or bad impressions.

Arry, I tried the Palmer front mount saver and I think it caused more vibrations that I could feel in the bars. I installed it one night and then went for a ride the next day. I noticed immediately that something seemed different, more buzzy. Then it occurred to me, I had installed that mount saver. So, I pulled the saver out and rode a couple miles, vibration was back to normal. I put the saver back in and it was worse again. I now carry it in my tool kit and only plan to install it if my front isolator completely fails and I just need to get home. I have commented on this before and several members disagreed with me and said they felt no changes. I definitely could tell a change.

I do have another Palmer Product though, and that is the windshield brackets. They are probably the best accessory that I have ever added to any bike. Love 'em! Thanks.

I have already ordered the Palmer piece since I installed a new mount. I will let you know the difference, if any, once I get it and install.

I agree with Motorbike, the Palmer donut added more vibration.

Sounds like a great idea to carry in case of failure just to get you home. I'll have to add that to the travel list!
Thanks Motorbike.

Tootal, you are welcome! If I'm not mistaken, you would have metal to metal contact between the isolator and the center bolt if the rubber cushion fails completely. The mount saver just might make the ride home bearable, depending on how far you need to go. I'm hoping I never have to find out. Thanks.

I have little knowledge about the isolator besides the most basic understanding, that being said I've been following along for when I need to understand. I'm curious about the last couple of posts. If there is in fact an actual failure, am I understanding correctly that we could possibly use the Palmer product as a stop gap to get home safely? So it is still feasible to run the bike with a failed isolator? If that is in fact the case then I believe that I will add this to my travel kit as well. Sorry for my ignorance, but I appreciate the information.

Schwara, I really don't know if my idea of using the mount saver as an emergency measure will work or not. I have not needed to try it out yet in that situation. In my mind, it should work but I hope everyone doesn't go out and buy one just because of my idea. I have been wrong before.....

I'm guessing it might be a little difficult to install the mount saver if the isolator has failed, as the gap would be gone. You would have to improvise a way to raise the front of the engine up just slightly while installing the saver. I think all you would need to do is find someone with a small jack to put under the front of the muffler. Thanks.
