Hello all, I have an 07 uly with about 24000 miles on it that i have had now for about 5 months. I love the thing and it has been well taken care of by previous owner. I have done all the recommeneded checks and replacements of parts that are known issues with the 07.
I am now begining to have 2 new issues with the bike now that I would like to get some advice on.
1. Keep popping fuses on the cooling fan, not sure why, does have some oil on it though.
2. After the bike is thourghouly warmed up and have been riding a while, when i return the throttle to idle it just wants to stay at 2000 rpm and EXTREMELY slow to come back to normal idle if at all. If I put a load on it, the engine will return to normal idle and stay there. That one is kind of a weird issue for me, any one else have that problem? I have recently repaired the thottle return cable, and have rechecked it many times and handle bars turned both ways an there is no problems. Just seems to happen while riding.
Any thought would be appreciated

On my 06 bike it was always a bit slow to return to idle speed. A TPS reset seems to help a lot but you must do is right. You should not have oil on the fan (makes the fan load higher) or fuse (makes for a higher electrical resistance). Which is it.

What is your idle RPM when the engine is fully warmed up?

My X1 would do that type of thing when the idle was set just a tad too high, say 1150 or so. I set it to 950 RPM and that fixed the problem.
It also introduced a new problem:
I always have to crack the throttle just a tiny bit when it's cold for about 40 seconds before it will idle without my hand on the gas.

I found this to be preferable. I have left it set that way for 80,000 miles with no issues.

It also vibrates a little less at idle.

Your going to need a fan motor soon. I had that happen to me. Check your rear valve cover gaskets.

1- The fuse popping along with the oil means you have a leak, most likely the rear valve cover gasket. Replace gasket, maybe the fan too.

2- Your idle speed is set too high.

your idle speed is probaly fine.
it could be an intake flange or exhaust gasket leak making your idle high when hot.
mine has a snapped rear header stud, and thus an exhaust leak, and it does exactly what you describe.

Thanks for the help, looks like I am going to need to replace a rear valve cover gasket soon, looks like a total pain to do, how involved is that procedure?
I will check for intake/ exhaust leaks, sounds like that may be my issue.

Rear valve cover replacement requires you to rotate/drop the front of the motor. Not difficult to do, just requires some time. Did this last fall, spent an afternoon working on it. Could probably do it in a couple hours now. If it's leaking at the rear of the rocker cover, make sure you check the seal groove depth on the rocker covers in that area. Mine wasn't sealing because the groove was too deep in the cover and the seal wasn't contacting the upper cover. Ended up shooting some silicone in there and letting it firm up, then installing the seal. Been fine since.

Before you get into chasing leaks...turn a screw. Back your hot idle down about 50 rpm and that should solve the "idle hang" problem.

To get more in-depth...it is probably the result of a TPS reset done cold. That's the wrong way. The bike needs to be at full operating temperature to do a TPS reset on an 06/07.

Ratbuell is correct a cold tps makes the revs bounce from 1000 to 1500, had that issue with a dealer, so i took the laptop to the door of the dealer let the bike heat up and made the tps reset wit the engine hot, the dealer was surprised i could do that, taught them a lesson, and they're supposed to be mechanics?
or they just know how to chance pieces until they find the piece that is going wrong? (Well at least thats what they do here in Spain).

I'm sure a few of us could teach a lot to the dealers.

Yes do the TPS right. You may need to do it a couple of times to get the hang of it. Easy enough though and the more you learn about the bike, and you will need to the better it will be. Get yourself an ECM SPY lead to do it.

This sort of thing makes me mad. Never EVER trust anyone who works on your bike. Next time it might be your life on the line. Trust me I KNOW.

Black Bear UK are very good though. There work is good and I am happy to pay up. Now that is something you will not hear much of from me?
