Well thanks to a dealer out here, not a HD Dealer... My rear wheel is shot. Last time they put a tire on they pulled out a bearing, set it back in with a socket and hammer, then loc-tite'd the bearing in when it slipped out of the wheel... Well I took it to an HD dealer for a new wheel and they told me the bearing had spun in the wheel, oblonging the hole... Anyways. Shopping for a new wheel on a budget, will an 1125 wheel fit? I know it won't be the heavy duty wheel but will it work? How easy are they to really bend? I mean its not like the wheel rides the road, its got the tire to cushion it. So what will and will not fit? |

All XB and 1125 wheels will fit, but if I was you I would push for the dealer to get you a new wheel, specifically a 2010 Uly one. |

I've got a brand new, unmounted Uly wheel. PM me what your "budget" is? To answer your question, all the XB wheels will fit. I ran the amber wheels on mine without a hitch. |

All XB wheels "fit". Only the magnesium-tone UlyX wheels have the strengthening strip. Lean on the dealer who boogered up your wheel. If they admitted doing it...they should stand behind it and do right by a replacement. And tell them "the only replacement I can get right now...is the updated 2010 setup". Its worth a shot |

It isn't obvious from the post that the dealer screwed up the wheel, pulling out a bearing while putting a tire on would be hard to do if it weren't already way-loose. Problems with bearings seating tightly and staying tight is a problem in uly rear wheels. If it were me I'd buy the 2010 wheel as well as its upgraded and shouldn't suffer this problem. |

I've made up my mind to go ahead and purchase the 2010 rear wheel assembly. I have not had a bearing seizure or anything but took the rear wheel off 2 days ago and as usual the bearings were stiff to turn and gritty feeling, especially the drive pulley side bearing. Anyway, I'm pretty sick of messing with those bearings even though I really haven't ever had a failure. What's a used ULY rear wheel worth to anybody out there? |

Shipping would probably be the killer. Personally, if I saw an intact but cosmetically worn old style Uly rear wheel, I would be happy to drop $50 for it and have it as a spare. Much more than that and I'd be thinking of just getting the new style and solving the problem. |

Given our step-child status I would buy (I did) a 2010 wheel now so we can keep riding for many years. Save your old one...folks will be needing them 10 years from now. |

if you want the 2010 wheels you better buy them. the black with red stripe is pending obsolete. funny thing is the black with red stripe shows a hd retail of $336 which is what they all usually are, but the plain black one(also doesnt say pending obsolete) is only listed with a $285 retail... |

I've leaned on the dealer pretty hard, and it was them that screwed it up, the service manager admitted it to me before I talked to the owner, then he clammed up and didn't say anything after it. Anyone run the lighter wheel and have it dent or ding up like the uly wheel is designed not to? |

I off road my 1125R and CR, I've damaged pods but am yet to dent a wheel. Once I ran over a squirrel and dented both wheels on my XB. |

Froggy, I've hit 2 large dogs, a cat (recently), a few birds, a rabbit through the back spokes, and a squirrel launched itself from a bush into my front wheel spokes. Only the dogs probably survived. I always feel terrible about clocking animals except for one of the dogs(german shepherd)which really messed up my Hodaka and caused some mean road rash. |

so ive also noticed that i have no info on the 2010 stuff besides the factory parts books. because looking through my parts books there are definitely some missing colors from the 2010 wheel. like translucent blue is only listed as a 2 bearing wheel, and so is the piranha black with red stripe so i was incorrect about that... shows they were offered in 3 bearing as designer black, villian black, sky white, translucent red, and magnesium. its very likely im just missing something though... id like to get my hands on the part numbers for the other stuff if someone has them, because i sure cant find them in anything i have. i cant remember if a 2010 P&A book ever came out or if there was just stuff listed online. i know i have them for most of the 2000's but no 2010. if it was just online and someone grabbed it and has a pdf or something that would be great to get ahold of... |

I'm not sure I realized that there were multiple flavors of black. I was going to just order a "black" 2010 3 bearing wheel from Al, but how do I know if that matches the stock black wheels I have on my '09 Uly now? Along a similar tangent ... has anyone stripped the paint off Uly wheels, had the AL polished and then anodized clear? Anyone see a problem with doing that? |

What dealership is it? I think this would be useful info. Also, Keep your receipts and take those clowns to small-claims. Don't let weasels get away with it! |

ah, crap ok. looked up that number and found them. thanks frogman. i either need to call it a week or open my eyes better this week. although my mind has been on vacation the last couple days... its way to nice to not be out riding part number G0309.7AAYBX(obsolete) superceeds to G0309.02A8AYBX (now obsolete) and says the original(G0309.7AAYBX) was never used... then it supreceeds to G0309.02A8AYBX )which is also obsolete) then to G0309.02A8BYBX which is currently available pending obsolete... but lists this in parts reference comments FOR XB MODELS USE G1309.02A8YBX(obsolete when i checked)) FOR 1125R MODELS USE G1309.1AMYBX apparently those wheels come with bearing, spacer, and axle kit. but the xb model version is obsolete so i guess youd buy the 1125 kit and throw the axle away?! man they mad it a cluster %$#@ and thats just the hero blue wheel... |

Yea I don't have HD net to do the investigating like you, but I knew it would prove its existence. I actually have to order up three wheels as I want to swap my bikes over, so I am saving up about 150,000 pennies (Message edited by froggy on September 09, 2011) |

My 08 1125R is under warranty still, my 09 CR has the 5 year wheel and tire, so those I'm not too worried about, I am on my own for my XB, I guess I will just HTFU and buy one for that. I need to ask Erik how many bearings my RS will have |

Are the axle torque values the same for putting a 2010 rear wheel back onto the bike? |

Just got off the phone with Al at American Sport Bike and ordered that 2010 wheel. What is very interesting to me is that right before ordering it I had just come back from the Harley/Buell dealer and they wanted (at first) $527 for that same 2010 ULY rear wheel with all the bits. I had them go to the American Sport Bike website and showed them it was a might bit less at 336 + 20 for pressing bearings + about 25 for shipping. I know the parts guy and he did some discounting and got the price down to 412 tax included. Not too far off but I would still have to run out there again and then have to get the stuff together to press the bearings in which would probably cost me more then the 20 bucks that Al was to charge. I went with American Sports Bike. The dealership is very Buell friendly but for some reason the prices for that darned wheel were higher. Maybe he didn't look it up correctly. |

That $20 to have Al properly install the bearings will be the best money you ever spent. I spent more than that to make a tool to press the bearings into my 2010 wheel. I have to admit it was kinda fun to do but that's just me. Concerning the torque value on the rear axle with the 2010 wheel, I just torqued it the same as my 08 wheel. Can anyone tell us if this is correct? I torqued it to 25 lbs, backed the axle out 2 turns and re-torqued to 50 lbs. I also put a thin film of anti-seize on the threads before installing the axle. So far, it is working fine. Also, as a double check, I loosened the pinch bolt and re-checked the torque after riding about 100 miles, just to make sure everything was seated properly. The axle did not rotate any more during this re-check at 50lbs. As a side note, just to make sure I don't forget to torque the pinch bolt, I always completely remove it any time that I loosen it. That way I will see the bolt lying on the bench as a reminder. Thanks. |
