I use a space-age compound containing FeO2.
It's cheap but you have to know where to find it.

Still use S100 engine brightener & .I live by the ocean(salt air).It still looks good.Just spray on after washing & drying bike.

FeO2 is great stuff, you can find it just about anywhere. It's kinda like fighting fire with fire.

FeO2 is harder than steel too.
I found that out when installing many pop rivets in my old '77 Dodge van.
Steel drill bits die faster going through rust than nice clean steel.

Oxides of metals come out harder than the metals themselves.
Think of how hard an abrasive Aluminum Oxide is and how soft Aluminum is.
