I just got a 2006 Uly with only 8k miles, in exceptional condition. I love it so far. It has carbon fiber front guard, drummer exhaust, upgraded shift and brake levers, comfort kit, adjustable wind break, aluminum front plate, I just finished the breather mod which the previous owner started but did not put the breather filter in. just ran the hose. Erik Buell Racing ECM is on order. What are some other recommended mods to get the most out of my Uly? |

That bike looks awfully familiar. Looks like you are missing the beak and hand guards! |

I have the beak and hand guards in a parts box. Hand guards not needed so much in N. CA. |

I like the do the free or cheap mods first. The headlights do not put out enough light, especially when you want your high beams on. 1. The easiest and most noticeable improvement was to install new headlight bulbs. I use these http://tinyurl.com/White-H7-bulbs Much brighter and the light is very white. Buy 2 because the high and low use the same bulb. 2. The "Both Headlights On" mod FREE...http://tinyurl.com/Both-ON Have fun!!! |

Precision Engineering sells nice front pegs, greatly improving foot traction. Looks like you already have them installed. The stock hand guards help against car mirrors, but not much. Moose Racing Aluminum Handguards fit inside the stockers with a little work. (drill, tap, 2 screws) |

Union_man, Thanks mucho for the link to Speedkills's photo tutorial on getting both headlights on. My son wanted his 07' ULY set up like that and I was hesitant to do his because I had a bear of a time when I did mine a couple of years ago. I really had a tough time with those pins and ruined one of the pins. Not so this time on my boy's ULY. Instead of a nail to drive those pins out I used a very small drill bit, probably about a 1/16" bit grasped by a vice grip plier. The end of the bit I pushed the pins with was the chuck end of the bit not the fluted end. Grasped the plug with a small vice grip plier and pushed the orange and then yellow pins out EASILY with no effort at all. Reinserted the pins with a needlenose plier. Everything went quick and slick as snot. Couldn't of taken me a 1/2 hour start to finish and ready to ride. Both lights on on high beam now. Thanks guys. Anyone needing to do any pin work on anything with pins would benefit from these two tools: For about $6
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062447 And for about $12
http://www.aerostich.com/connector-pin-tool.html I wouldn't argue with the simplicity of the nail (been there, used that) but while walking through Radio Shack one day eons ago, I found theirs and for a fiver, I was set. The nail is in permanent retirement. The Shack usually stocks their pin tool on the shelf. |

Another FREE mod for you... While you have the front open to do the Headlight mod you can shorten the front turn signals. 1. open front 2. unplug turn signals 3. remove signals 4. reassemble turn signals with the spacers on the inside instead of outside. DONE...way cooler and the turn signals will shake less. |

Congrats, welcome, and just ride the snot out of it. Farkling over time is better and more fun than reading and cramming stuff on that might not suit your needs. |

Also the shorter turnsignals won't touch pavement on a tip over whereas the stock length front ones will until you shorten them that is. |

Welcome to the group. I'm new to it myself with a red 09 Uly XT @ 20K. I got her just a couple of months ago. You are ahead of me with the breather mod, that is next on my list. I got lowered pegs, SS bar ends, & a pegasus engraved reservoir cover from Knight Design all of which I am very happy with. It looks like you have the MadStad flyscreen is that correct? Are you pretty happy with that & the adj brackets? I don't suppose that you might have any close up pics? I was also curious about your upgraded shift and brake levers. Will they still allow the use of the stock hand guards and if so what brand are they? I would like new levers but I'm unclear which will still allow me to keep my hand guards. |

I'll get some closer pics of the mods up here for you in the next day or two. As my work schedule permits. I also put the lowered and wider pegs on. They are much more comfortable. The MadStad fly screen is nice and yes the brackets adjust very easily. The breather mod seemed to make a huge difference at real low RMPS. it was fairly easy to do. I will put up photos of how I ran that also. I did mine a little different then some others. Thank you all for responding i appreciate it. |

Comfort kit, Maximum Heat Blanket kit from Special Ops, Baldwin modified seat with gel insert. XB12XP luggage is nice. Def do the "Both on hi-beam" mod and get some very bright H7s. A set of PIAAs or the equivalent is a good addition for wide open night rides. I got an 09 XB12X with 12k, a year ago and love it. 23k now. Congrats on the acquisition and welcome to BWB. Zack Oh yeah, free, remove the wire guard on the headlights, easier to keep clean. serious bug killer. Polish the head-pipes and they radiate a little less. important on hot days and traffic. "What are some other recommended mods to get the most out of my Uly?" Not mods but? Setting up the suspension and tyre pressures right will make the bike handle, on the road, just about as good as any bike made today. I do not know whats been done to your bike but if your bike dives under braking add 6ml (cost next to nothing to do) of heavy fork oil to each fork. This works VERY well and also helps the compression/rebound work better. Also do not make more than a quarter turn adjustment on compression/rebound at any one time and get the pre-load right before anything else. If you use the rear brake and it is no good now just change the pads out. Its all that is needed to make it work right. Fronts as well if you ride the bike hard. If not done vent the air box - easy and cheap. Change to oil every 2.5k - easy and cheap. Check the wheel bearings. In your part of the world water is not much of a problem so the things that do come from this is no big deal. |

Buy or assemble a toolkit. Get a spare belt. The toolkit fits under the seat and the belt in the bags. Get an air compressor that plugs into the 12V cigarette lighter plug and get some gooey ropes. Get a breaker bar that will allow you to easily loosen the axles. There's a couple of options for voltage indicators. Do a 77 connector bypass using submersible pump connectors you can get from Home Depot. Put some ADV stickers on it. Quit washing it. Get some spare bearings. |

My other mods, continued from Fri: also got axle sliders from Knight, 1" bar riser & top clamp from Precision, Hawk Performance Muffler, K&N air filter, race ECM, & Special OPS heat barriers. Doing 1st oil change tonight w Mobil 1 20w50 V-Twin. Next on my list is the breather mod, move signals in, oil dipstick thermometer, pop rivet eliminator set from IronMachine, paint the gray section on chin fairing black, cruiser pegs & tail tidy from Palmer, & then ceramic coat headers. Also possibly considering polished aluminum adjustable levers, MadStad adjustable windshield bracket and AL flyscreen, barback handlebar risers from Twisted Throttle, as well as the Metisse lowering kit from Street Fighter Inc. Have fun with it. |

I think those handguards were taken off because there is a throttlemeister installed? Either that or those are some serious bar-end weights. |

If you want to lower it, let me know. I liked mine before, I love it now. Being able to actually touch with both feet is great. |
