Just got back from a 1700 mile spin through ID, OR, and northern CA. 2 up on a 2010 XB12X. The bike performed perfectly, never lacked power (2 up and loaded into a 30MPH headwind), was always comfortable, and it delivered 50MPG + for most of the trip. The suspension was perfect on the rough and potholed coastal roads and I didn't even have to lube or adjust the chain once. I felt sorry for ever other motorcyclist that I met on their BMWs, HDs, and other brand bikes. For my money, this is the best bike ever put into production. Too bad they stopped making them. A pic.

Very cool, Windrider. They are nice, for sure. 50+ mpg! I'm envious. |

I have to agree. I just returned from a 1000-mile jaunt through the east and west slopes of the Rockies - two-up and full luggage. How many bikes out there can you cruise on the slab in total comfort (rider and pillion) at nearly triple digit speeds, hit the twisties and scratch like a sportbike, and then take a spontaneous jaunt down a fire road, again with total comfort and confidence? There's only one other to my knowledge, but it will set you back 24K kitted the same as a new Uly at 12K. Except for a GSA, I don't think there is another bike that will do so much so well. |

After a rather rocky first 11 months with my two Ducati Multistrada 1200S's (1st one totaled, 2nd one down again in the silt) I'm afraid I don't disagree with your assessment. Glad I kept my '06 12X, even though my summer is down the tubes (busted index finger). --Doc |

I hope to get a little ride down the coast this summer. I have a kid on the way, so I better get it in while I can.... |

I have a kid on the way, so I better get it in while I can.... Definitely!! I have a 6 month old, and yesterday I was able to go for a 2.5 hour ride. Not a big deal, except that it was by far the longest ride I've taken this year... |

50+ MPG consistently? I, too, am jealous. I just got back from a 3,800 mile trip and fluctuated between 43 and 50+, with the latter being less common. Most tanks were in the 46-47 range. Can you describe your riding conditions or style a little more? I'm hoping you'll provide something that makes me feel a little better. Or is the '10 that much better than my '07? |

Nice! Can't take a long trip this year (daughter's wedding to pay for next year) so will have to make do with small ones; today it was Fullerton to Phelan and back via Angeles Crest Hwy both ways. One up, 240 miles, 4.3 gallons used, 55.8 mpg. Nice day and a very nice ride! Next summer it's back to NorCal and Oregon for sure. |

I have an 09 and my mileage varies dramatically depending on how I ride. I haven't calculated any figures in a long time, but when I'm just putzing around town never getting the RPMs up that high, I'll consistently see the low fuel light come on between 120 and 130 miles. When I'm on the road doing high cruising speeds or even hammering it in the mountains, I consistently hit 150 to 160 miles before the light comes on. |

There are days I wish I got to ride like I used to . . . start at 6am and ride until 8pm . . miles, miles and more miles. But alas . . my annual mileage now runs about what my weekly used to. But . . I enjoy every mile. I jumped on the Ulysses yesterday and just did a 279 mile "look about" ride. . . never sped . . listened to music, relaxed, laughed and had a good time. Bike runs like a top. 43.57 MPG . . no bad considering the time in traffic getting in and out of Manhattan. It is an amazing piece of machinery. |

"It is an amazing piece of machinery." True that. People unfamiliar with the Buell brand are consistently befuddled. WHY ON EARTH would they stop making those? Go Erik Buell Racing!!! |

I agree, new bikes show up at work all the time. Guy rode up yesterday ona brand new ZX14 Concourse full of cool features and gadgetry faster than ^&&(. After it was all said and done I wouldn't trade straight across for nothing. Every bike I compare it to has faults, the ZX was a gigantic heavy wide monster that lacked the handling and ability to ride on anything but smooth asphalt. Yes, keeping the Uly |

I have the exact same bike-love the thing. I do wish I was getting that kind of mileage. The times I've checked it's been 44-47. But what a MINOR gripe to have. |

Just finished a 3800 mile ride with 20 other riders to the Rocky Mountains and Moab. This was my first long ride on a Uly and I'm sold. The group was mostly split between Harleys and BMWs and I liked the Uly better than either. About 45 mpg for me. |

Wife & I are headed out Saturday morning on a roughly 4000 mile trip to Moab, UT and surrounding areas for a 17-day motorcycle vacation too! 06 X & 09 XT Love them both!! They went to the Grand Canyon last summer & it was one of the best, if not the best vacation we ever took! Can't wait to get going. I concur. |

Zimbra- How many miles on your Uly? MPG's have improved with mine as miles are piled on. With the fabulous non-oxy fuel I'm able to get at most corner stations up north, I've been averaging 60-65 mpgs on the superslab. Almost 24K on my XT. Happy riding! B. |

I agree ... best all around bike I have ever driven ... Jealous of all the trips ... My daily to work ride ... 60 miles a day ... Rain or shine ... Getting anywhere between 40-48 mpg depending how spirited the ride ... |

Hi Red, We were celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary trip so we were not in a big hurry to pile on miles. We were gone for 8 days and spent one day rained in a hotel in Lincoln City, OR. Mrs WindRider will not disclose her weight precisely but she is pretty fit and just a "lil thing". I would guess the whole load at around 360 lbs or so. |

Agreed! wife and I went for a ride last sunday, went through the mindoro cut and just kept going, nothing like a little 2 up road therapy, ended up putting on 118 miles. My uly is an 07, I get around 160 miles before the fuel light comes on. The bike only has 3100 miles on it so far, and I'm loving every one of them!! Mike. |

Hi Eryngium, I would describe my riding style as quick and smooth. I don't ride really fast and I like to feel a smooth rythym through the twisty bits, but always maintain a little bit of safety margin. My tires show abrasion to the edge of the tread but not to the edge of the rubber. We got the best fuel economy on the frame of fuel from Bend OR to Burns OR. That road is pretty wide open and traffic moves swiftly. We were moving from 70-85 MPH to keep up with traffic and that frame got 58 MPG. This bike seems to get the best fuel economy if you keep it moving at about 80MPH. Odd, but it sure seems to work that way. Worst of the trip was around 47 MPG where we rolled around Portland OR a little. |

"Towpro Posted on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 - 06:25 pm: A wise man once said "the best motorcycle I have ever owned is my current ride" Towpro, I have heard this and there is some truth to it. However, nothing else that I have ever ridden has the grin factor of the Uly. It just pegs the funmeter in such a practical way. |

Dead wrong, next time try 60, you will get 20mpg more. Wind resistance increases exponentially as you speed up. You will find the bike is happier at 60, and it is less work to ride. Oh, and its nice going over 240 miles and not seeing the gas light come on once |

Love my XT. I do wish my bags were more water proof (really just the left one). I also wouldn't mind a bit more power. Still, I love every ride. Oh, and I am more in the low 40s mpg. I think I like to twist the throttle a little too much taking off from a stand still. I'll live with the low 40s for the fun she gives me. |
