Awhile back I remarked how I had lucked upon a large like-new Airhawk cruiser pad for $5 at a motorcycle swap meet. Anyways, my son and I rode our ULYs this past week over to my folks in Iowa City, Iowa and I bungeed the Airhawk to his ULY tall seat. I sat as usual on my sheep pelt. It's 270 miles over to Iowa City from Omaha, NE and so that's about 5 hours of seat time. I asked him how his butt felt and he said the Airhawk really seemed to help. I haven't tried the Airhawk myself yet. About 3 days later we took a long route back to Nebraska taking only secondary roads which amounts to over 9 hours of saddle time. My butt started to suffer but my son claims the Airhawk really worked for him. I guess I'll have to try the darned thing out on the next long haul. Both ULY's ran great.

A tall seat, Airhawk, AND a sheepskin? I'm surprised he didn't get a nose bleed from the extreme altitude.

Nice to know they work well- too bad we all can't find one for $5!

I like mine(enough that I paid retail)well enough for the long haul. It insulates you from heat also.

The method of use that works best for me is to ride about 300 miles on just the seat, then put on the pad. I do this because when I am fresh on the bike I don't need it, and it is just cumbersome enough that it makes the Uly's well made seat feel like it has an air pad on it. But once squirming commences it is fine. It seems to work best with a very minimum of air.

I do not like having it on the seat when I hit the twisties or when in town where stop and go are happening. Slabbing it is where it shines.

Hugh,
My boy used the airhawk on his ULY and I used only a sheep pelt on my ULY. As for the 5 buck airhawk seat pad, good things come to those who wait and are ready to pounce. I've always seen those airhawk seat pads being sold out at Sturgis, South Dakota but the price, to me, is way to steep for something that may or may not work. Looking more and more like they do help.

Yeah, at $170 I was in total despair when I bought mine. Local HD dealer had them in stock. I did not have my Uly yet, I had just got back from a 400 mile ride and had a 500 miler coming the next weekend. That City-X seat was a bit narrower than the Uly's!

I know this is much too much information but I believe it is all the hair getting tugged on that causes all the crotch a.ss pain. Hell of a deal!
Vern,
170 shamolies would put me in anaphylactic shock but I'd get over it if the thing performed well enough. Red hot baboon ass has put the damper on many a long ride. The more your upper body weighs the worse it gets.

I'd probably end up giving myself a vasectomy.

I as the spokesperson for No-Vas.com want to remind you that there is NOTHING as painful as the long term after effects of a vasectomy. I can't go 10 minutes before the peanuts start to hurt.....So just don't have it done. It is the most brutal thing that a man can inflict upon his person.

A buzz saw through the boys. Now that's a pleasant thought. Anybody got a bag of ice?

I had it done while in the Navy, in the early 80s.
Felt like I was kicked in the nutz for a day.

Comfort and peace of mind the rest of my life. no bad here.
I'm a great uncle, but too selfish to be a dad.

I have a Freedom Air pad (same idea as an Airhawk). When I rode out to Indy from CT, I put in an honest 18 hour day on my SX, with smoke/gas breaks, and had no butt burn/monkey ass at all. Even sat on it in the van for a CT to TX and back trip. Well worth it.
