I took my wife to an outlet mall Sunday, just north of Pittsburgh, Pa., and got this photo.

Oh, F me. Just looked closer at the plate. Couldn't really see the little chair at first...

That is cool. Sometimes I need a "sign" to go with pictures of signs...

On one of my trips to NC to ride in the mountains, I met a guy on a triked Suzuki C50. He had his wheelchair strapped to the back. Made me stop complaining for a bit.

Anyone notice the Heritage also has a handicapped plate?

I'm sorry...but how bad could it be? Looks to me like hubby has his bike registered under wifey's name so he can use her handicap status to get her plate...

(says the guy who had a handicapped hangtag on my mirror for months after my wreck...but refused to use it)

Well it could be like a couple I knew years ago. He rode the trike and she rode the bike, but he could not get on off the trike without assistance and help getting his chair around. She was able to get a spousal tag after getting ticketed a couple times for parking with him.

My ankle was crushed by a Jersey Barrier in 1997. It fell over on me on a jobsite that I was working on. I got a minimal Insurance settlement because the Insurance Company taped me riding my motorcycle. Their argument was that if I was healthy enough to ride a motorcycle, then I was fit enough for "a full active duty return to work". It didn't matter that I could not walk without a cane; or that it hurt me less to ride a motorcycle than to drive a car. It looked more athletic. The judge agreed with the Insurance Co. (AIG for what it's worth). I was a Miner, and that injury ended my career, as there was no way in hell that I could even walk in a tunnel, let alone work in one.
I still have trouble walking on broken ground, and it becomes extremely painful to drive a car for very long. But I can ride my motorcycle across the US. I have an open script for 800 Mg. Ibuprofen, which I try not to take too many of, but sometimes the pain is very acute. I limp and use a cane a bit, but I refuse to let it stop me. However, I have a HP plate on my bike, and I am not ashamed to park in a Handicap space.
My wife also has a HP plate. She broke her back when she rolled a Jeep, and had surgery that only partially repaired the damage . She also lives with a lot of pain. We both love to ride, and we both park together. Sometimes in Handicap spaces.
When I see the photo above, I see somebody who is not letting their handicap stop them from doing things that they enjoy.

Yeah, I have to catch myself from scoffing at people parking in those spaces when they seem to be perfectly mobile getting in and out of the car. Sometimes you can't see what the handicap actually is (such as the inability to walk through a large parking lot or down tons of steps).

I've also read many accounts of riders who have been seriously injured/paralyzed who can ride again using specially-modified trikes. I give nothing but props to them if they can do it safely.
