I am trying to investigate a CEL but my current manual says nothing about the diagnostic test plug. In a previous post

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/635716.html?1307114457

I got some advice from Froggy, but even after checking over lunch I'm not sure how to move / remove what I think is the heat deflector which is hiding the plug. I found another post with lots of pictures

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/629631.html?1303991777

so could someone please point out where this plug is and how I can get to it, hopefully without screwing things up?

Thanks a lot.

The heat deflector just pops out. It has tabs on the top and bottom. The plug should be behind it, possibly taped to the wiring harness.

It's on the left side of the bike. just remove the plastic heat shield that is in the opening between the frame and tail section under the seat (pinch and pull) an you will be able to have easy access.

Thanks, I'll try again. I just didn't really want to force things when I wasn't sure if I was even looking in the right area.

It's under the seat on the left side at the front of the subframe. Here are a couple of fresh shots of the plug on my 07/09 Uly:

Your plug may not be in exactly the same place as mine since I installed this wiring harness myself, but it should be pretty close. The only thing that could be hiding the plug is the 08-style heat defelectors, which would be a snap-in plastic piece filling the sort of whale fin shaped opening in the subframe. You can just remove it and then snap it back in place when you're through.

I am attaching a picture I grabbed from the other post. Is the area I circled in purple the plastic heat shield that I want to pinch and pull away? Thanks again.

NO! DO NOT remove that piece because it will be a BITCH to reinstall!

If you've got the seat off you don't really need to remove anything. The plug should be under that bundle of wires at the bottom of the photo you posted. Look at the photos I posted again. My photos were taken kneeling beside the bike on the left side.
