The cable broke on my factory HB Journey lid. Does anyone know the part # and if it's available? THANKS.

It's available and inexpensive. You'll need to contact your nearest BMW dealership to get it.

I would just suggest making your own out of aircraft cable or sash chain.
Easier to find a home depot.

Sounds good but there aren't any BMW dealers in my neck of the woods.

When mine broke on the "tour pak"(I have the Outdoorsman set) I went to Lowes and bought some steel cable(1/8 or 3/16 IIRC) and clamps/ferrules and made my own.
Better than OEM.

Think I'll stop by Lowe's. Thanks for the pics.

They're called deckelhalters.
I made my own from bicycle brake cable and crimps.

Went thru this years back. Contacted Hepco directly. They sent me to the couple of US distributors they have. No one had the part or part number. Never was able to find or replace them. The BMW dealer said no to anything Buell related and really didn't know what I was talking about anyway.
Yes, deckelhalters. I think that is German for "make your own".

Best I can do:
http://secure.capitalcycle.com/Hepco-Becker-Restraint-Journey-42/productinfo/710.125/

Twisted Throttle used to handle HB, but apparently no more.

Parts:

My (better IMHO) solution as the other guys:

Been there, futile search later decided even if I waste more time and money getting the OEM part, I will just drop the lid and break it again. I used coated cable from Home Depot. Put heat shrink on the ends to fancy it up and help from snagging anything I put in the bag.

I did fishing line. More than one loop. then wrapped it like a wire harness with electrical tape 2 years ago.

Great solutions, guys. I felt like a total dummy when I put some weight on the open section of my case and those flimsy cables snapped. I used a large linked necklace chain for my fix, which has held since August, but these seem like much better fixes.

Noticed a similar flimsy set up on our new givi side cases, this may be another project for all four bags.

FIXED. Went to Ace Hardware and picked up steel cable and crimp on ends. Total cost $4.38.

@ Lastcyclone
"deckelhalter" is the German name for the part.
I talked to the Hepco Becker guys at the Munich Motorcycle show early this year. They will sell spare parts for the panniers, but can not sell Buell specific parts. Thats pretty bad!
