What is that double loop wire thing in the tool kit for? Looks like wire fishing leader I used to use for Ling Cod.

Helmet lock

Really? Well, I guess that explains why I swear up and down every time I try to lock my helmet to the helmet lock (without the wire), and bitch about how they could have put it at a different spot.

I guess just another instance where I should have RTFM.

Great, like a lot of things so simple it's stupid (or I'm a little slow). Don't knock Montana's dental floss, braided it's stronger than carbon fiber.RIP FZ

I'm glad someone finally asked the question. After four years, I figured if I didn't need it something wasn't broke.

And then I'd get a cup of coffee
And give my foot a push
Just me and the pygmy pony
Over by the dental floss bush!

I'm glad someone asked about this otherwise it would still be sitting unused under my seat. Great idea, too bad the owner's manual didn't mention it.

Is that a real poncho? I mean is that a Mexican poncho or is that a Sears poncho?

Yeah, not in my manual either but those in the know say that's what it's for. It would be easier to get your helmet directly on the hook if you could pull the key out of the lock with the hook open. Not enough room for helmet, hands and keys at the same time.

Be careful where your helmet hangs on the lock when you have filled the gas tank in the morning and the sun warms it enough to push a few ounces out the overflow.

Helmet is not a good catch can.

I didn't know what it was until a few months ago. After having it sit under my seat for over a year....

Trying to lock my helmet without was a pain in the butt, and I stopped bothering with it.

No. But I can tell you that riding for a weekend after dumping gas out of your helmet is not a good thing

Fumes give you a sick buzz and headache that make you want to vomit. Then put the helmet back on first thing the next morning and start over. Kinda like O-D-ing on PBR and Old Grand Dad then trying to wash away the hang over with six more in the morning.

Gasoline does really ugly things to the EPS liner in the helmet, as well. If your helmet gets a few ounces of gas in it, you might as well throw it away. It's not going to offer much protection.

Yeah John, I tossed it. Fortunately it was an open face with a full flip up shield, if it had been a full face it would have ended the trip.

Styrofoam + gas = goo.

Reminds me of the guy that ran out of gas and found a styrofoam cup to pour some gas into. He wasn't fast enough to get it in the tank!

The loop thing actually works well for Firebolt/1125/Lightning models that don't have the helmet lock. You remove the seat, put one loop over the forward pin that the seat attaches to (lightning models) or through the hook in the subframe under the passenger seat (firebolt/1125), loop it through your D ring, and back to the pin/hook, and reinstall the seat. You can do the same on a Uly if you have a passenger helmet that needs locked up in addition to the drivers helmet on the lock.
