Hi all,

Changed my belt this weekend after a snap.

I noticed that my rear sprocket had wear marks in each tooth, that is some of what looks like the chrome was worn off.

This is my first Belt drive bike So I am unsure about sprocket maintenance.

How do I know if I need to change it?

Is this on your 2008 XB? There is no service interval for your sprockets. They only get changed if they have excessive damage from rock chips or other debris.

There is no chrome on the stock sprockets, they have a black coating on them.

I'll post a picture of what I mean by chrome, but you are right it is NOT chrome but looks like dark chrome (might be hard now that the belt is back on).

Basically each groove is worn in the valley.

Also is the tensioner supposed to fit PERFECTLY under the strap or is it normal to have the tensioner wheel wider by about the width of a coin?

My understanding is that the teeth themselves are coated (I thought they were chromed too) to provide a hard surface for the belt to ride on. Raw aluminum would be worn away by the belt rubbing on them. My service manual says to inspect for damage to this coating and to replace if necessary.

the coasting is worn on each valley between the teeth.

Price one, and compare to the price of a belt and peace of mind.

I changed mine in June of the '06 (57K). Mine was showing wear on the high part toward the outside. It was making the belt creep out just a little.

The sprocket, new bolts and washers were about 130 plus shipping.
