My brother got my mom to send him to MMI. She worked her ass off and got him a grant.

I am the adopted one in the family, so might be a little bitter but: This is the brother that went to Mobile Dynamics in AZ for months and couldn't hook up a one wire break light on his bug. Ended up with a job at the local $1 wire fire audio install place in Sacramento. Couldn't keep it.

Now in the unlikely but possible event he actually "graduates", he'll be working on peoples bike! This is also the same brother that wrecked my KLR, them moved. - This was in the last years.

I have an awesome friend that has his own shop, but he doesn't do computers : ( Wheels, no problem : )

hey tom, glad to hear that everythings ok with your uly. sucks to be the new guy but i'm glad that he's not the one that worked on mine. outside of the break issue, pretty happy with the way it's running right now. have a safe trip.

then he says and you are missing a spacer for the rear wheel. at which time our new mechanic fresh out of MMI says i didn't see a spacer when i took off the wheel...

...long story short the bearings are fine i found the spacer on the tire balance machine.

Am I the only one thoroughly confused here?

+1 XB. So did the bearings in the `10 wheel fail at 10K miles?

The spacer he probably is referring to is the thin one about 1/8" thick that goes on the rotor side, and fits inside the outer seal. If this was left off, the seal would probably bind on the swingarm, and make the wheel hard to turn.

Well back to the original purpose of the thread, I'm 62, have had the 09 Uly since last Dec. and it's presence has affected the miles on my other two bikes. Here is a link to a picture of the XT on a road trip in the Black hills 10 days ago.

Well I am not the oldest and far from the youngest at 67 but I still enjoying riding my Buells. I ride the Uly the most as it is my sole long distance traveler, for two up mom likes the BMW K1200LT better but for short trips (less than 200 miles) she enjoys the Uly. However I really enjoy the CR and the S1WL also.

HURRAY! I'm post #100. 41 years young! Not what most would consider an old fart but just like others have said "it's not the age, it's the mileage"

Ditto on dusty back up bikes. Sixty years young and the Uly is the only one being ridden. Too much grin. Besides, it made the DR feel so crude...I just sold it. Sat there with a flat tire, empty tank/carb and dusty. I had no desire to ever get on it again. I think I was trying to find that "one" bike that would do-all... I may visit buying a light dirt bike again someday. Maybe to ride with grandkids. A Husky TE 610 or ?. Euly

Euly, the other bike that I ride whenever I'm not on the XT is a Yamaha XT 225. It's a great light weight bike and lot's of fun. It's street legal and will do 65 easy on the road and go just about anywhere off the pavement. I've seen them used with low miles in the 2k range.

Well, I just turned 40. Seven years ago when I bought my Firebolt, I hooked up with several Buellers in my area. I realized that I was the youngest among them, by A LOT. Most are in their late-50's or early-60's. I think it's because these bikes are for riders who don't want to cruise, and aren't trying to prove how big their wang or their wallet is.

58 here. How's the old saying go? "I'm not as good as I once was . . ."

Who am I kidding? I wasn't all that good even when I was younger.

42 years old, on my third Buell. Heck, that puts me at 10 years of Buell ownership now! More if "tuber years" count double (and they probably should ; ) ).

45 until October. Used to have an '03 xb9s & loved it. Lusted after the Uly when they hit the market. I almost bought my '09 xb12x at the beginning of last October for my 45th bday but dragged my feet until the salesman called me the day the plug was pulled & told me about the drastic price reduction. SOLD!

Me - 45, in five weeks the Uly will be 5 years old. Bike just shy of 53,000 miles and on the original set of rear bearing. I did change the front bearings because one felt rough during a tire change at 30,000.
