I decided to make my own highway pegs out of my wife's old sporty pegs. I was going to get the ones that palmer products had, but they seemed to have a lot of extra hardware sticking out. I am in no way knocking palmer products nor am I trying to sell what I made. I am just showing an alternative that can be done in the shop. I simply made my own bracket and welded it to my muffler. I feel the muffler has well enough strength to support some lazy legs going down the highway. I'm not an engineer, but I some common sense. They work great so far. Here's some pics.

At least you'll know when your muffler rusts through!

why the negative feedback....opinions are nice, but if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say it.

I'd love to see build details and bigger pictures! I'd like to add highway pegs as long as they aren't in the way of anything.

Mike, the way you ride, you'd be dragging those quick. Probably need something with a higher mounting point.

looks good to me. I have the palmer pegs but they and the frame put a weird side bend in my knee, I have bad knees which is why i wanted highway pegs in the first place.
could you post a pic of how you mounted them ?

Mike, the way you ride, you'd be dragging those quick.

Even if they were folded up? I think there's plenty of room here for folded up pegs next to the chin fairing.

I'd just like an alternative footing position for touring.

I'd love to see details about the install!

I'd like to see some close up pictures of the install also, don't pay any attention to the, Nattering Nabobs of Negativism, any new ideas on placement of forward pegs greatly appreciated.

Well, perhaps if they fold. His pictures are from a bit too far away to tell what he's got.

I like the idea but have concern with the front muffler strap breaking since they are know to break without the help of my legs resting on it.

Better pictures please, I just took off my Palmer highway Pegs after using them twice. They just didn't work for me, I couldn't reach them.

OK, I'm not trying to be negative, just sarcastic! No, really, anyone who has the skill to weld on their bike has my respect!

I posted some new pics on my photobucket.com link in the first post.

I didn't have time to take the front cowl off, but I'll describe it the best I can.

I customized my own muffler and put dual chrome tips on it. I love it and it sounds great. I'd rather do something myself at half or less the cost than pay somebody....I know the mufflers rust, but with proper preventative maintenance they will last a long time if not the length of the bike. I know the mufflers are built pretty well. I used 1/8" x 1 1/2" steel bar to mount the highway pegs. These were cheap old aftermarket bar pegs that I cut in half. I custom bent the steel bar to mount onto the cowl mount. The only part actually welded to the "muffler" is on the left side and to the front. It's pretty stiff there and the metal is thicker as well. I have some black plastic trim I'm going to put around the holes where the pegs go into the cowl. I have not had any muffler problems as I always check it and take care of issues as they arise. Was gonna sell the uly but, I'm just gonna ride the snot out of it since they are virtually worth nothing on the current market. I'm not going to give it away either. I love my bike and the pegs make the longer rides even more comfy. If I do have muffler issues I have a spare I bought a year ago. I just couldn't see spending almost 300 us dollars for the kit and pegs and then having to wait weeks for it to come. I just decided to build my own. I encourage anyone to try it out.....there are many possibilities...

I know there are gonna be some negative people on here....but hey, I made my own damn pegs.....and I like them.

People are wicked, when your unwanted.
Streets are evile when your down...
When your strange....people come out of the Wisconsin and Minnesota woods.
For heavens sake Monica, who would
play a practical joke on total strangers
with every bone in their body broken?
It's a mad, mad, mad, Buell world!

I have a question, how do you detach the pegs to get the faring off? It may be obvious but I'm having trouble seeing just what you did for attachment form you pics. Thanks

I think the location of the highway pegs in the pics are just about right. I still have a concern about the front muffler strap breaking. Anyone have any ideas of how to help support the front of the muffler.

I'm thinking about trying something similar with a piece of flat bar support attached to the motor also. Neither attachment point would carry all of the weight.

I'm the odd guy out again. When I need to stretch my legs I throw them up on the frame pucks.

I do the puck stretch one leg at a time. It stretches your back out too. It's not as comfy as Froggy looks though. Looks like he's laying in a hammock! Where's the umbrella drink?

I am glad I'm not the odd guy out again! Sadly the roads here and the deer don't allow me to relax back quite that far!
