It seem like I'm gonna have to wedge a ton of padding between the colored facia (blue, black, or whatever color your Uly is) and the instrument cluster frame to keep my stock windshield from rattling like crazy and creating annoying bumble bee noises.

I can't imagine there are wrong ways to mount the shield so why am I the only one with a loud/slightly cracked windscreen?

Mine isn't cracked yet but it does rattle like crazy at times. I wedged a piece of plastic between mine and it has helped some. Although I tried putting a piece on both sides, the left side came out and I need to replace it. I've given some thought to using a silicone adhesive on it next time to try and keep it in place. Although I love my Palmer brackets they do have drawbacks. Even with the drawbacks I won't remove mine unless my windscreen gets ruined.

I had some 1-1/2" X 1/4" weatherstrip and put two pieces stacked at the top of the IC mount, under the flyscreen.
It still shakes at a very narrow rpm band but MUCH less than before.

I went with the optional support arms because I had the taller XT screen, seems to help keep the entire unit stable

Get the supports from palmer they will cure that problem. Worked for mine.

I threw mine away because I thought "I'll never put a big enough shield on here to warrant them"

Okc99,

Never throw away potential bike parts!! I keep everything - little pieces of metal, bolts, boxes, instructions...

You never know when you might need something!

Your wife is probably happier than mine though...

Okc99, are you sure the "annoying bumble bee noises" are not caused by the horn vibrating against the back side of the flyscreen?

I had the same kind of vibrating, buzzing noise after installing my Palmer Brackets and XT shield. I made some slight modifications to the horn mounting bracket and the noise was gone. Just a thought, maybe yours is OK.

I did not order the optional support arms for the Palmer Brackets. Instead, I cut and formed a sheet of 14 gauge stainless steel to fit the backside of the flyscreen. All four of the Palmer Bracket mounting screws go through the flyscreen and also through my reinforcement piece. I feel this helps to spread the load of the windshield mount over a larger area and so far is working great. The windshield shakes just like the rest of the bike at idle but smooths out perfectly underway.

So far, the Palmer Brackets have been the best modification I have done to my bike. I haven't tried out my new 06 tall seat yet but I hope I like that as well! Sure wish it would stop raining.

I think Motorbike's got it right. I have the same buzzing noise only within a very small rpm window. Though it sounds like it's coming from the windshield, I've determined it's coming from underneath the flyscreen. Now I just have to find the time to take it apart and see what is knocking underneath there. It's the only rattle my bike makes, which is amazing considering the vibrations it makes.

If its coming from under the fly screen... then its probably the horn hitting the back of the fly screen.

In the stock configuration, the horn resides very close to the inside of the flyscreen, not much clearance at all. It is also mounted on brackets that are quite flexible, maybe something to do with sound quality of the horn? Anyway, it really vibrates when it hits certain RPM's and will easily move far enough to hit the flyscreen.

Look up behind the flyscreen with a flashlight and you will see what I mean. Do not attempt while riding or serious injury or death may occur.

+1 on the horn hitting the flyscreen.

Took off the flyscreen and found a nice little semi-circle where the edge of the horn was hitting.

Bent the bracket back a little and all gone. Although the spring warm/cold cycles may have relaxed it back into it's original spot.

I don't have one, but I remember reading a post somewhere the the area of the metal part of the ears/where it abuts the shield, needs to be either trimmed or slightly bent to match the curvature of the windshield. A gap between the two surfaces can cause vibration and even cracking.

Thanks for the tip on the horn and the lights, had fun yesterday and did all 3 mods.
I bent an S in the straps for the horn, dropped it back about 1/4".

Messed up the sockets doing the lights.
I don't have a proper extractor and had trouble releasing the sockets from the shell.
Do NOT push anything inside the socket!
Once I got them contacting again, all was good.

Shortening the signal stalks was easy, I added a flat-washer to the mix to contact the extension inside.

The Beast is ready for night-riding now. : )

Ohhh...nice Zac. She's a looker. I see you even bedazzled her "wrists" with those hand guard extenders.

While you're in there, swap out the stock horn for something more potent, like a Stebel Nautilus air horn. Sometimes you just have to get the cager's attention.

I dug around in the garage today and found some "pieces-parts" and made a pair of supports.
Bronze rod inside copper tube with solder lugs at the ends.
A pair of P-clamps and voila.
