Yes, Buellerxt, you're now running the latest BUE2D firmware. Oil is designed to perform best when warmed up to operating temperature, so there's no need to cool it down excessively. My engine temperatures generally peak at 205*F, which is very acceptable. Of course, I live in Canada right now and I'm moving back to Arizona next month so I'm sure there'll be a difference then!

My bike has a modified pipe, headers, and intake. The fueling that comes with the map wasn't good for my bike, so I've been datalogging and slowly iterating on the fuel maps to get the AFV closer to 100. I'm at 90 now, so definitely making progress and driveability is really good.

Thanks, Mesozoic. Very cool. I'm in South Texas and have a daughter living in the Phoenix area. It would be nice to meet you sometime and thank you in person.

My AFV, whatever that is (LOL), hum, average fuel something(?), is probably far from 100 but ignorance is bliss, sometimes, and so far I really like the way the bike runs. However, you've now got me wondering 'Ah, what would it be like if this baby was optimized'? LOL Thanks again.

Buellerxt, the AFV is a very important value that is computed by the ECM when the bike is run. The value can be read from the ECM under the name "AFV Rear" in TunerPro. They say that an AFV between 95 and 105 is a good running engine, so it's worth remapping the fueling until your bike is in that range. Smoothness, power, economy, and everything else comes with the AFV being closer to 100 than not. When I started tuning my bike the AFV was at 77. Ran like CRAP.

Id073897 has really done the Buell community a service by posting lots of useful info here: http://ecmspy.com/tgv2/guide2.shtml. In fact, this document should be a prerequisite for anyone getting into tuning. Knowledge is power!

What am I missing here? I thought it was not possible to do any tuning on 08 and up XB ECM's other than re-flashes which can only be done at the dealership? Sorry, I'm really confused on this subject.

You have been in the dark then : )
Direct Link, ECMspy, Ohio Sprtbike, and ECMread/tunerpro could all do it to varying degrees. The new ECMspy which will be out soon will work even better. : )

Basically, the contents of the ECM.

Finally got to ride Uly with the un-done flash. I think it turns out to be the Comfort Kit flash...fan still off at lights. Riding with a helmet so not sure I hear the fan when on. What I am loving is the XB9 gear reduction. Feels like a dual sport should...got the grunt back and acceleration awesome. Have a feeling certain rubber elements are headed downhill faster...

OK, so it comes down to this for me. If the comfort kit flash only impacted the way the fan works then I would leave it well alone, as I think it's better to have more cooling fan at low speed / stop, not less.

But if there are other benefits as well - per Mr Mesozoic - then it starts to shift the balance in my mind. My bike is stock, so hopefully I wouldn't see the fuelling issues he mentioned.

Decisions decisions - guess I'll flip a coin! : )

Surfsofa, my thought process was exactly like yours on this issue. I went with the re-flash after reading Mesozoic's input and I'm glad I did. If it tweaks all of those things Mesozoic listed, and keeps the bike running cooler across the full range, as he said he data logged, I wanted it. I have only put about 170 miles on the bike since having it done but I have experienced zero negatives so far and don't expect to. I'll report back if I get the bike out today. Best of luck.

So are you guys saying the 08s and forward can now be tuned using ECMspy? I would love to learn how to do this on my 09.

All fuel injected Buells can be tuned through a variety of programs including but not limited to ECMspy. : )

Surfsofa, I put a little over 100 miles on my Uly today and ran in through some paces to check for differences in the re-flash. All is well. No noticeable changes at all. The bike really runs well. Hopefully it runs cooler across the range!

I kind of liked the fan running when I stopped with the stock flash;it felt like some real cooling was going on. Now I have to 'trust' that the fan is doing it's job since I wear earplugs I can't hear it. I'm not sure how I will know if it fails. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Thanks.

Bueller, I can hear the fan running (thought my brakes or something was squeaking at first) until I get to 15-14 then it shuts down, it's a real quiet squeak kinda is what it sounds like to me. I can only hear it when coming to a stop or putting along the engine drowns it out under acceleration. I've been riding without plugs since I got the Uly though because I lost them, I'll report back if I can hear it with plugs in.

Thanks, Natek, I'll have to ride it occasionally without earplugs and listen real hard! I wonder if the check-engine-light comes on if the fan dies?

Buellerxt,I think the light will come on if the fan dies,I pulled the inline fuse once for the fan to see what would happen and the "check engine"light did come on..

With a dead fan the CEL usually will but won't always come on.

Does anyone know exactly what the new fan parameters are (as well as any other changes with the comfort kit flash)? can they be manually implemented into an '06 with EcMSpy?
