So how long before HD pulls the plug on Buell parts next? I read a report that HD is planing to continue with parts sales through 2010. Then what?!?!?

Personally, I think HD will pull the plug as soon as they think they can get away with it...but, what parts
are the most critical, really - the belt and ECM?

.

We will know when the last call for parts goes out.

so in 3 year from now, we will be ordering parts from an over seas dealer.
So, the parts will be shipped over seas and then back...

That would be 7 years until that scenario would be theoretically possible or necessary. Then you may have to track down supplies in europe while they have the extra years. After that, everyone is on their own.

I tried to order side stand parts last week to replace the tweaked ones from when my landlord knocked my bike over awhile back.

The parts guy called me back and told me that the mounting plate was "back ordered with no release date known". This is a Buell-friendly dealer and the parts guy didn't let it go at that, then having a discussion with HD about their 7-year commitment. He and others I talked to at that dealer are as pissed at HD as we are.

So maybe the MoCo has already started... guess I'll have to get a later style 3-bolt mount and hack it up to fit. Sad.

are any of the normal engine rebuild parts(pistons, rings, crank and rods, ect) compatable with sportster stuff?

and why is it that i can buy all this stuff for my dirtbike from a bucket full of aftermarket companys and i cant for my Buell?
i could rebuild my entire DRZ without using a single suzuki part.

Yeah - the "requirements" are one thing, the 'interest' in supplying parts quite another. Thats the problem with a monopoly that no longer has a business interest in a product. Ever try to get Edsel parts from the FOMOCO?? For now we are at the mercy of HD, period. I suppose one could go the FTC and complain if it becomes a 6 month ordeal to get a part, but ya still won't have the part. Lets hope HD honors their words & committment to us 'former' customers and see what happens. We Buellers will just have to get creative and explore the art of interchangability & service options(ie; like how some ATV wheel bearings work on Ulys & what shop can rebuild a shock. Or how a Ford 352 V8 piston ring fits the 58' Edsel too) The BWB is going to be a critical link to our communication and success. For those of us that hang on to the Ulys...we just gotta 'hang' together. Dr Gregs 'dear slayer' is going to be invaluable to him. Chow all, j

i would think that the parts will be available as long as the new bikes are under warranty...maybe im wrong, i would think that would put the moco in jepardy if they didnt honor the warranty... the extended warranties, i dont have a clue...

many parts that i tried to buy for my tubers, were not available, nor was the interest...

FWIW, the dealership (Performance H-D/Buell in Syracuse, NY) where I just bought my Uly says that H-D is going to keep parts available for 7 yrs so they can handle the extended warranty period. The dealership also told me that they intend to sign on as an authorized Buell service facility for that 7 yr period. I hope it's all true.

Kiss my furry little heiny Mr Harley.

You can still buy parts for Norton Commandos if you need. I am not too worried about Buells for some time even as dealers drop off. THere were some 135,000 Buells made.

Quit bitchin at Harley. Harley made the ULY and Rotaxed 1125 bikes possible. Buell made the decision to rush the 1125 bikes to market and the resultant problems killed the sales. Blame Harley if it makes you feel that finger pointing is the way to go but Buell killed themselves with their hard headedness. How long did it take to admit the ULY needed a right side scoop? Rear wheel bearings? Rusty mufflers (never addressed) and failing kickstands (actually that was addressed quickly). That right side scoop would have sold thousands of more bikes in my opinion (the fan on my bike never runs anymore except at shutdown, oil is cooler and mpg is somewhat up). Do I believe Harley should have held onto Buell MC. Yes, but my say in this means nothing.

I for one agre with you Electraglider, your average consumer doesnt want to sit on a blowtorch. The guy at the gas stop showing everyone his blistered leg is only cool in his own eyes, everyone else thinks he's missing a few links in his chain for paying money to put himself through that.
and my rusty muffler on a brand new bike got more than one "cheap POS" comment from what could have been potential customers.

All that being said, there is something about my Uly that keeps me hooked and very sad about the BMC demise. I looked forward to a 2010 Homecoming and I can't see that happening unless the faithful somehow put one together...which I'm hoping for.

The thought has crossed my mind that HD "might" take the completed bikes in East Troy and pull them down to be spare parts billed to the Buell closing write-down. Selling at a discount and then honoring a 2 yr warranty has to be a forward liability. I hope they sell the bikes but who knows.

There's a British company called "Trojan Horse" that offers a conversion kit. I don't remember how much it was.

Chain kits for the XB will work, just need a longer chain. The package can be had for about $200.
