Was riding home from work yesterday when the bike started to run very rough and the check engine light came on. I was able to keep it going by giving plenty of throttle but would stall if I tried to let it idle. Even at high throttle the bike was way down on power and constantly bucking. Felt like it was running on one cylinder.

Hooked it up to ECMSpy when I got home and pulled a "Trouble code 23 - front injector short to ground or open". The code seemed to make sense because the bike was running like there was a fuel issue.

So today, I followed the procedure in the FSM for trouble code 23. I tested the injector for resistance. It registered approx 12 ohms, which is correct. I also verified 12 volts on the gray wire from the ECM. I next pinned out both injector wires (one from the ECM and one near the fuel pump. Everything checked out good. I started the bike up and it seemed idle just fine. Visually, all the wires looked good.

Took it out for a test spin and everything was normal for a few miles until it warmed up. Same symptoms as Friday. Brought it back home and did all the measurements again, this time while the engine was hot. Everything tested good.

Not sure what to try now. Thought about pulling the fuel pump to check for a shorted wire in there but seems to me if the problem was there it would affect both injectors not just the front.

I did a search here on trouble code 23 but not many instances came up. Anyone experience this type of problem before. BTW bike is a 2007 with 57k miles. New plugs and wires were put on at 55K miles along with a TPS reset. Bike was running pretty strong prior to this.

I would.....clean all your pattery grounds and connections.

They will cause strange electrical occurences, like you are describing.

I made an unscheduled repair on the way to the Last Ride due to some running issues.

I had a fuel injector wire rub through where it crossed over the breather hose for the front cylinder, as well as many other wires rubbed through or heat affected to where the insulation fused several wires in different spots under the air box. There was a thread here in BB&D back in August about that.

Yeah, did a few more checks. Seems the wire between the ECM and Injector, which should read infinite, has about 2 ohms of resistance between it and ground. Time to rip into the harness.
