not good...

last session of the day, doing probably 50mph or so, I was deep in turn 4 at Blackhawk Farms Raceway, dragging knee, and my peg caught a piece of the inside curb (at least i think that is what happened).

broke the subframe on both rails, blinker, scraped swingarm, broke shifter, pegs, clutch, belt guard, etc. etc.

I walked away without a bruise thanks to full leathers and protective gear.

Now the real question is; will my insurance cover damages from a track day? Waiting on a call back from the claims adjuster.

I'd leave out the part about track day and tell him it happened in a Walmart parking lot.

That sucks.
That's part of the track day game though.

Insurance companies hose you every day. Stick it to 'em pull the grass and dirt out of it and go with the parking lot thing.

It could have been a lot worse...you could have been riding something other than a Buell.

Don't tell them you had it at the track. Most insurance companies have specific language stating that they will not cover any damage incurred as a result of "racing or track activity". That's why I have always been super careful on track days! Good Luck, I hope it works out for you.
P.S.
I just high sided mine in a parking lot, for real, yesterday. OUCH!!!!

I have heard that the squid's excuse is that "It fell off the trailer". I don't know which is more of a lie.

I understand that is one reason our insurance is so high. If I crashed my bike at a track day, I'd eat the expense.

Not wanting to offend, but why a track day on 616's?

Lots of riders like them but man I sure didn't... too spooky and unpredictable IMHO.

Glad you're OK.

Looks like the passenger footpeg extensions held up! Sorry to hear about your off, but glad to hear you aren't damaged.

That sucks, but you walked away unscathed which is what matters. Bikes repair easier than bodies...

As for the sticking it to the insurance company - guess you'll have to follow your conscience.
I'm with Mike - I'd foot the bill.
Never say never, but I'd be surprised if your carrier covered your loss for track day. If they do, please let us all know who it is so we can get in on the action!

about the insurance, my plan is to explain to the adjuster that a track day is NOT reckless driving. It's a controlled environment where I am receiving instruction from control riders on how to further my riding skills. I would think they would promote this type of thing. If they don't see it that way, I guess I'll repair the bike myself and eat the cost. I'm the first to admit that I did not read my insurance policy before doing the track day. If I had, I would have reconsidered.

Rwven, the peg extensions held up great! If they do total the bike, I'll get them off the bike and ship them back to ya.

"but why a track day on 616's?"
because they are what came on the bike! They were getting a little worn in the center after 3500 miles so I decided the finish them off at the track. I don't feel like the crash was a result of the tires...they held up well IMO.}

on that note....does anyone have the part number for the seat subframe and how much it costs? I think that is going to be the most expensive part to replace.

Excellent course of action with the insurance company. You are absolutely correct - track riding is much safer than street riding. Please keep us posted on how you make out. Good luck.

Never tested it myself, but I believe track days are covered usually, racing is not.
That applies to warranty also.

Good luck, glad you're OK.

It depends on your insurance company/policy. Had a friend total his bike at Mid-Ohio last year. He had Progressive insurance. They covered it 100% because he was in the Intermediate group (considered skill improvement). If he was in Advanced, they would NOT have covered it because they deem that "racing".

I cartwheeled my old VFR at a Reg Pridmore track day and the insurance payed to fix it no problem. That was Progressive.

Hangon,
You might want to reconsider turning that into your insurance company. What is your deductible? If it is $500 then you are wasting your time. I'd look at it from all angles before alerting your insurance carrier to what they will probably consider as wreckless behavior. How much will they increase future premiums to ensure they get their money back out of you. I don't carry anything other than liability which is the insurance minimum mandated by the state. Sure, if you have a loan on that bike then it is probably required by your loaner to carry full coverage but you need to think it through in terms of all long term costs should you make the insurance company privy to the wreck and your lifestyle.

If you go with the "country road" story, they may ask if there was a police report or an incident number. When I hit a deer (on a country road), the officer gave me an incident number but did not fill out a report because I was the only vehicle involved, I was up and walking, and the bike was ridable.

Glad you're okay! Let's hear it for gear!

Ouch!

Buells crash fairly well, and I'm willing to bet it would be far cheaper for you to fix it yourself than claim it on insurance.

I typically reserve insurance claims for severe damage or something that's beyond repair (think totaled). I'm betting it's less than $1000 worth of damage if you spin the wrenches yourself.

Just a piece of track day advice from a track day veteran. Don't run those D616 tires at the track. Get some good track rubber. Even if you're not a super fast rider, street oriented tires can overheat and become greasy.

I don't mean to be rude but you're crazy if you admit to this happening on the track. You don't need a witness or a police report to claim that you had a get-off while street riding.

My buddy wrecked his GS1200 on the track last summer. Simply told the insurance company he crashed on the street. No witnesses. No police report. No argument. New bike.

Admitting to this being a track accident is a HUGE gamble. I know your conscience is telling you to "do the right thing" but you've paid plenty to the insurance company over the years. I'd virtually guarantee you won't see one dime if you tell them this happened on the track.

-1 on what Tipsy wrote.

Do the right thing.
Cheating the system is just that.
There's no way a misrepresentation can be rationalized as being "ok."

Many have wrote their carrier covered track accidents (to my surprise).
If your policy covers it, great. If not, that's the price you pay for the sport you have chosen, right?

I took my Uly to the track once and had the time of my life. I did think that it would be a pisser if I dropped it on the track, but I was willing to take that chance.
