Support your local shop - you expect their's... ... but I don't get their support so why should they get mine? It's Mobil 1 for me too, picked a 5qt bottle up last week. |

I don't know where you're getting Syn-3 for 10 bucks, it was $13 at my closest H-D dealer. I've switched over to Amsoil for $8.50 a quart. |

...but I don't get their support so why should they get mine? Take the long view. The better your local dealer does, the better HD does. The better HD does, the better Buell does. The better Wally World does, the worse the rest of the world does. Support your local shop. |

I do support my local shop. Every now and then I lay down cash and ride out with a bike. I buy oil filters, primary oil and plugs from the local shops. I buy my oil at Walmart otherwise I'd be paying double at the dealer. I cruise the clearance aisle at Walmart too. Recently I picked up 10 quarts of Castrol Full Synthetic 20W50 at $3.50 per quart. Using it in the Yamaha Radian. I don't mind buying from the local shop except when I'd feel like "a fool with his money are soon parted". I like to take the long view when it comes to "MY" financial picture and that does not include taking the long view for anyone else except family. The day I start worrying about the local shop's financial wherewithal is the day that shop has a sign above it proclaiming "Electraglider_1997 Motorcycle Emporium". Besides there are plenty of suckers out there to provide a windfall for my local shops. They are the ones paying out the nose for 1,000 10,000 and 20,000 mile checkups on their sleds. Actually those types usually trade their 1500 mile bikes in every year for the newest models. |

Besides there are plenty of suckers out there to provide a windfall for my local shops. My local shop is a poor excuse for a Buell shop and their service dept. is a joke. I'll keep my $ in my wallet that I save by buying M-1 at Wally World and use it for something else that I need. I'm all for supporting my local shop but they don't appreciate my business. |

my local Super Wal-Mart doesn't carry the Mobil one in 20w-50 or I would buy it there. I can only get the Mobil One at the Auto Zone stores and it's the same price as HD Sync 3. I also purchase my HD Sync 3 at the local dealer when he has an "Open House: sale giving a 20% off price on it. The dealer has cases of his oil lined-up by the front door when he has his open house. I see riders coming there in their trucks to purchase cases of oil and other supplies during his sale. Planning and timing is everything when it come to making a good purchase! |

I'm all for supporting my local shop My local shop only carries HD, but I have been buying Mobil 1 from them -- it was priced lower than anywhere else. The parts guys would always ask if I needed an oil filter, I'd make a point of mentioning that they don't stock Buell parts anymore, so no thanks ! I noticed that it went up $4/qt, so much for supporting them. |

Mobil 1 15W50 works just as well as the overpriced 20W50. I've been running 15W50 for years in all our bikes with good results. I've got it straight from Mobil 1 folks at their Sturgis display that the automotive 15W50 syn that they sell works just fine in V-twins, though they like to point out that V-twin 20W50 is specially formulated for V-twins. Will I pay the difference, no. It easily costs twice as much per quart and certainly works no better for its intended purpose which is the lubrication of the engine. Our transmissions have separate lube requirements. I used Belray GearSaver until they went to 10 bucks per quart. Formula + is only 7 bucks so I use it now. |

Actually I read in an oil comparison that the automotive oil did better than the v-twin version. Amsoil, Royal Purple and Red Line all did better than Mobil and good old Castrol GTX did better than some so called synthetics. Modern oils are amazing, period. |

My 2 cents, Mystik jt-8 semi synth 15w-50 in summer and 15w-40 winter/spring. Works great and 2 gals costs 16-17$. I known diesel oil but lots of zn/phos. Chas |

Before Harley started selling synthetic oil they claimed that if you needed oil and couldn't get Harley oil then use an oil for a diesel engine. |

My '06 Uly owners manual still recommends diesel oil as a backup to HD oil. If I were to switch away from synthetic, I would definitely run Rotella or Delvac. Great price and great additive packages. |

Why would one buy Screamin Eagle at the best of times anyway,it's a cheap oil made to a tender price,it's crap in my books,+1 for Amsoil,I pay 18 bucks a quart in Australia, but am quite happy to do so,and +1 for why should we support our dealers, here in Oz they don't give a tinkers cuss about us,never have, never will, the quicker they part company from HD stealers the better for all of us. |

Diesel oil is formulated for extreme pressure. 18/1 compression ratio, it really has to perform. The old two stroke Detroit Diesel engines used to recommend straight 30W in the winter and 40W in the summer. I however just started using Amsoil 20W-50. I used to use Castrol 20W-50 because I could pick it up for less than $6 at the retailer from hell till they stopped carrying it. 15W-50, I guess it would be ok but have you ever looked at just how small the crank pins are on our engines? |

lol. Oil bias. Oil expertize. Too funny. Definitely, don't run the oil that is specified in the SM put out by Buell. That would be a monumental mistake. Support your local shop. |

Support your local shop. You seem to be missing the point here. If your local shop doesn't stock Buell parts, or Buell accessories, ignore you when you walk in unless you're heard rapping the straight pipes as you pull up dressed like a pirate, and otherwise doesn't give a rat's ass about Buells, then you feel free to continue throwing your money at them in loyal support. I won't do it, they don't deserve it. EG put up the thread to advise that the M1 15/50 was on sale and a lot of people like using it. |

Your points were not abstruse but definitely obvious... you don't like Wal Mart and you want the rest of us who have crappy local dealers to spend money at said crappy dealers. That's ridiculous in my book. |

Don't like wally world? That's a given. Do you? Do you like wally world and what they represent? Is the bottom line all that matters? How many dealers are in the metropolis of SB? They all suck? None are worthy of your business, your buck? No matter how sucky my local dealer was, I'd still rather spend my buck there than at wally world. What sucks is wally world and all it stands for. |

The dealership that I work for dropped Buell yesterday. I found out trying to price an 2008 1125R for a local Coast Guardsman. They've been a dealer since 1995 and never really supportive of Buell. I buy my Amsoil there because I get a discount when they have it. WallyWorld is right down the street when they don't. |

Everybody loves to hate Walmart. I can understand why but at the same time I can't help but think they keep prices lower everywhere else. That is good. We do our grocery shopping at Aldi. Tginnh will enjoy this aside. Walmart completely withdrew from Germany because they could not compete with Aldi. Got some of their own medicine. Read about it here or google Wal-mart Aldi. http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2009/01/13/watch-out -wal-mart-aldi-is-ready-to-storm-the-us/ |

My local Walmart stocked the V-Twin 20-50 for about a year. They always sold it out every week. They haven't had any for a few weeks so I asked the TLE Mgr when they might have some more. He said "Our store quit carrying it. They still will sell it in the area stores though". WTF.....a product that sells out will no longer be stocked? That makes no sense to me. Walmart is my better half's place of employment, has been so for the last fifteen years, so I don't feel too bad about feeding the monster when needed. My HD Buell 'friendly parts department' decided that their Syn oil was worth $13.50 per quart, and their HD dino is now $11.00. They think they are Saudi partners, I guess. I talked to the good folks at Banks Engineering about Mobil 1 at a camper show when I had a new '98 Dodge diesel and towed a 30 foot fifth wheel camper, they had no problem with Mobil 1 20-50 in their modified diesel engines. That was back when you could only get one type of Mobil 1 in its various weights. Aside from what tests it has passed, and the label color, it would be interesting to know what differences there really are in their formulas. |
