I am considering a move from the X to the XT. My recent trips have made me realize that my 29 inch inseam is a little too short on my 08 X.

Question does anyone know the distance from the seat to the peg on the XT versus the X?

I would also be interested in your impressions of those who have made the move from the X to the XT.

The same. Only difference is the height from the different suspensions.

As for impressions, I went from a 06 X to a 06 SS with Uly tail and pegs (a little shorter than the XT). I love the SS better, It is nice being able to put 2 feet down when stopped. I dropped the X a few times due to losing my footing when trying to tripod it. The X suspension soaked up the road a lot better, that is one thing I do miss.

I don't know how the roads are out your way, but they are piss-poor here in Maine. You can pry my extra suspension travel from my cold dead hands. That being said, with a 32" inseam, I always felt the bike was about as tall as I can comfortably handle, especially fully loaded. If I came in with a 29" inseam, I think I would strongly look either at the XT or Froggy's solution.

I guess in the end, it comes down to your own personal judgment about comfort at a stop vs. comfort while under way. I guess the thing to do would be take a road trip to some dealers with the XT and put a few miles on them and see what your heart tells you.

I have an 06 Uly and a 29 in. inseam. I just try to never put my feet down.

I have done OK with the Uly X... but after putting on over 3K miles in 2 and half weeks I really was worn out with the height, especially with 5 days of no kick stand. I dumped the bike once as the gravel went out under my foot. My 61 year-old bod just isn't as flexible as it use to be; but since we do a lot of 2-up riding I am reluctant to give up the way the X soaks up the bumps.

I had an '06 X that I traded in on an '08 XT. Seat to peg is the same on both. However, the extra 1+inch makes a big difference when stopped or during low speed situations.
I have a 30" inseam, and while the XT suspension isn't quite as plush as the X, it still works superbly.
I prefer the XT.

I was doing some thinking, how about lowering the suspension? You will get a nasty kick in the financial balls trading in on a new XT, especially how you are forced to buy the bags. If you have bags already, this hurts even more.

I thought about lowering my 08 X the first season, but now in my third summer and 40,000 mi. I'm very comfy, but I'm careful when I know the ground isn't level.

I too have been tempted to go to the XT from the X with my 32" inseam. But 7k miles later, I have learned the art of the tripod and am pretty good with only 1 foot down. It does take some extra planning on steep slopes and choosing a parking spot at times.

I'm currently in the market for a Uly, and have come to the realization that with a 30" inseam, I just don't feel comfortable with the X. I'm going for the XT.

Unless you're truly off roading it, an XT can do everything an X can do.

My 12Scg can do gravel roads and mild (maintained) fire roads just fine.
It'd be a piece of cake with an XT.

The stiffer XT suspension may not soak up the bumps and craters of a bad road as well as the X but on a good road with high speeds I think I'd prefer the extra firmness for the left/right/left/right/left/right etc.. twisties.

I've got an X and a 30 inch inseam. I have no problem except riding two-up, when it can occasionally be a struggle. Fortunately, even with the recommended pre-load, the bike does settle somewhat in the rear with loaded bags and a passenger.

I came pretty close to fitting mine with XT suspension bits about a year ago, but so far, I'm leaving it stock. I am going to try a set of boots with thicker soles sometime soon; New Enough has a couple of good candidates.

I suspect my next Buell, whatever it is, will be a little lower though.

This link shows a well done lowered Uly suspension. It does sound pricey though but probably not as bad as the money lost on a trade in.

I have a 06 with standard (high)06 seat and a 28 inseam. I ride with biker shorts underneath my pants to help with the constant heat and the movement of my butt so I can keep one foot touching. I can't touch with both feet, but wouldn't change a thing. With the 180 rear tire I can balance pretty long without moving waiting for a stop light to change.

I didn't go from the X to the XT. I just went straight to the XT. Just bought me one today. I can't wait to put some miles on this thing.

From another perspective, my wife and I have been riding an '83 Goldwing for 11 years and test rode an '08 XT. The XT was the best handling and most comfortable bike we'd ever been on, including GL1800 Goldwings and ST1300's. The old wing jars my wife's back over rough roads but the XT was exceptionally smooth, I wouldn't let the difference in spring height from X to XT bother you.
Oh yeah, an XT is definitely on the shopping list.
