Here's the deal. I just picked up a 2006 Ulysses that has the Jardine carbon fiber installed with no other performance mods. The guy I bought it from gave me a box of original parts which included the muffler. I was looking at the muffler and I thought it was supposed to have a valve on it. The cable is still on the bike (disconnected from the actuator and nicely tucked away), but I see no place on the muffler where it can be connected.

Do I have something completely misunderstood here? Do I have the right muffler (the number stamped on the bottom is 314 29693A)? I'm good with criticism, so please let me know if I'm a complete or even partial idiot...please.

At any rate, if I do have the correct muffler, what's the deal with the cable and what do I need to do to reinstall the stock muffler?

Many thanks from a Uly newbie

.

Tim

That's a XB9 muffler. All XB12s have the valve in the muffler. Unfortunately, the headers are different sizes and they are not interchangeable.

...however, you can probably get a fair bit of cash for it on eBay or Craigslist or even here on BWB. There are a couple sponsors of the site that take stock cans and modify them into some very popular performance mufflers (Drummer and Special OPS).

Yea thats the 9 muffler alright! Useless to you, unless you plan on sending it to Drummer or Special Ops to get gutted. If you are looking to go back to stock, post an add in the classifieds, perhaps someone has a Uly muffler (different from normal XB12) that they could trade.

Just my unappreciated opinion. Why do people change out to non-oem mufflers and then spend the rest of their days trying to tune the bike to the non-stock can? Makes no sense to me. Like it quiet and running good the way the factory provided.

Different strokes for different folks. My Micron full system looks and sounds better than the stocker. Runs better too : )

Thanks for the input folks. Now I'm trying to figure out how I ended up with a Ulysses bike and an XB9 muffler. Hmmm.

the race pipe on my 03 ran great... i would not even think of changing pipes on my 08, at least not until some new kind of fueling device is available..

Same here Werewulf.

I know there have been good results on many bikes, but I'm not changing pipes until I can tune the '08 as well.
