The ez-out didn't work but the dremel tool did.

I went to take the base plate for the air filter off but found three things: two tubes and something in the middle.

How do I get these off? (I'll get to them plugs some day!)

The two black rubber hose tubes are there to vent oily vapor from the engine into the intake stream instead of onto the ground. The thing between them is the intake air temperature sensor. Don't touch that. Push the two black tubes down until they pop out beneath the base plate. Lube them to help them out. When you feed them back through during reassembly make sure they are only 1/2" above the base plate and well below the tip of that air temp sensor. That is per the service manual directions even though mine wasn't that way from the factory. That is to keep the hot oily mist from interfering with the air intake sensor readings.

The "thing in the middle" looked pretty delicate and that's why I came back here for an answer. It's not my bike. I don't like breaking things on my bike but if i do, I suffer the consequences. Not my neighbor.

I'll head back to the garage now and make some more head way.

Thanks for the quick reply Glider.

The 'thing in the middle' is the intake air temp sensor. There is a connector that attaches to the bottom of it. Once you have the breather tubes out and the velocity stack seal below the level of the airbox bottom, you should have enough slack in the wiring harness to lift it up and see where to depress the latch on the connector to release it.

...I hope he's at least paying you in beer or women!

Dart - he'd rather pay me the hour labor than the dealer... plus, since it won't start, they'd have to charge him to pick it up.

Got the base off, unhooked the sensor, took the air scoop off, found the front plug and changed it.

Can I take off that "A" frame off (upside down V) that has a grounding strap on it?

It would make getting to the rear plug easier.

Put a scissor jack underneath the front jack point (near the front muffler strap, it is stamped into the muffler) and raise it until it has just started to support the engine and yes, you can take that off.

It shouldn't be necessary, but if you do, make sure those bolts are appropriately loctited/torqued when you put them back - they're important! ; )

"It shouldn't be necessary..." are the key words.

Now I see why I was advised to get a 12" extension, universal knuckle, etc. I guess I've gained as much access as I need.

OK. Tomorrow I'll have it done.

I'll let you know how I make out.

Holy Sh*t what a bike!

To those that posted messages to my two threads, thank you so much! Spark plugs were found and changed and so was the oil and filter. I couldn't have do it without the guidance and suggestions from you.

The 3/8" neoprene hose worked to perfection as did the dremel tool, when I stripped the lower air clearing housing screw. By the way, the replacement screws come with, what looks like, orange loctite already on it. They must come from the factory that way.

I searched for the oil filter but had to come back here and read some of the posts. It's hidden but it's in a better place than it is on my Super Glide.

I HAD to ride the bike to heat up the oil to suspend the contaminants so I could change it. Man! What a bike! I took it on the parkway and in a flash I'm doing 80 in the twisties! The greatest thing about it is that the bike handles so much better than mine that I wanted to go even faster. This bike is fantastic! It's a little tall in the saddle for me but once I got going it was like it was built around me.

Thanks again everyone for all of your help. I know I could not have done it without you.

Glad to help David.

Of course, you've screwed up royally now- you went and rode the thing. Maybe you'll be in the market for one before much longer?
