My local dealer has come down to 11,600 on a new 2009 XB12XT for me. I saw a couple of threads, but they related to used bikes. I was wondering if this is around the average others are paying for new XTs? It seems like a good deal to me, I'm thinking I'm going to hop on it.

Just was curious, this would be my first bike that wasn't a pure sport bike. Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm not much for hurting hips after a two hour ride on my CBR600RR anymore. : )

A Uly is a relaxed easy chair after riding a sport bike. ; ) Going from my Uly to my Firebolt and back always gives me fits on where to put my damned feet.

Seems like a good deal to me - I paid just a tad under MSRP for mine, but that was back when they were brand-spanking new and the economy hadn't taken a nosedive.

Thanks for the reply Darthane, I'm looking forward to doing a bit of inter-state travelling on mine. I think a nice back roads vacation to go ride the dragon will be my first stop. : )

Don't let the easy riding position fool you, the Uly's an extremely capable corner-carver - even loaded down.

I've got three Buells (Blast, Firebolt, and Ulysses) and have ridden friends' GSXRs, YZFs, etc.

...if I could only have one bike for the rest of my life, the Uly would be it, hands down.

"...if I could only have one bike for the rest of my life, the Uly would be it, hands down."

....what he said.

Signal4, seems like a good deal to me. It's under MSRP, a new bike and you do want the dealer to be satisfied with the sale too. That is if you ever plan to go back there. I paid MSRP for my 08XT, but it was ordered and the first one in CNY so I've got zero complaints.

That's better than what I paid for mine last September.

I was going to jump on that number thinking it was a bit high until I checked the msrp - didn't realize it was 13k.

"...and you do want the dealer to be satisfied with the sale too."

Not sure that I understand or agree with this sentiment. If you drive a hard bargain and aren't an a-hole about it, what does it matter?

My local Buell dealer would not budge much on price until I started getting quotes from other dealers in the region. They were more than happy to match any bona fide price quote I could present them.

Do your homework. Call or email dealers in the region for best price and see what pops up. You might be able to save another $500 or so.

It's a buyer's market. Be shrewd.

So, I bought it for the 11,600. I actually got them that low by calling two other buell dealers in the area. : ) Glad to say I rode the "Rattlesnake" highway 232 here in TN today, and put a total of over 200 miles on it. Rides like a dream and flicks in and out of corners like my old CBR, I'm loving it so far.

Thanks for the advice guys, hope to see you TN folks around!

Good choice. I traded my 03 Road King for my 09 XT. Did two 500 mile days on it a couple of weeks ago in total comfort. It's the best of all worlds. Great bike for a guy teetering on the edge of geezerdom like me at 64 years old.

Now I'm just trying to decide what I'm going to do to it first... I think I'm going to have to do something about the windscreen. I'm getting quite a bit of wind noise as I'm 6'1" and my head is too high, LOL.

Oh and I ordered one of the Arai helmets the guys in the videos and pics on the XB12XT on the Buell website are wearing. I got the frost gray for about 350 bucks, and no I cannot reveal the source of how I aquired this so cheap. Sorry guys! :P

That helmet just looks like it fits this bike though.

Oh, one more question... how "off-road" is it with those stock tires? I'm not planning on any motor cross, but I'd like to be able to cross a field without difficulty if I need to. The suspension seems like it can take it no sweat. Just worried about those tires.

First off, Congratulations for getting such a great bike! The more you ride thr XT, the more you're going to like it.
The stock tires on the XT are Pirelli Diablo Stradas. They're a Sport Touring tire; which means that they're a road tire designed for longer life while delivering a reasonable amount of traction for cornering. They won't work nearly as well as Dirt tires off road. For that matter, they won't work as well as, say, Scorpion Synchs on a dirt road. They're designed for pavement.
I put between 15-20,000 miles a year on my bike, and the Stradas work well enough for me, while lasting long enough by my standards.
I don't consider my XT an off road bike, though I would ride it off road if I had a reason to. Hell, I rode my Harley dresser down some pretty rough dirt roads, and I once rode my S3-T through a grass median on I-70 for about a mile. I just had to keep my speed down to what the bikes felt comfortable with.
