just for kicks when i brought my uly in for a rear tire change i asked the tech to check for updates in the ecm and low and behold there was a new one . the fan now runs less than 1/2 the time it did before and the low speed cough is gone . i had troubles last year when it was new and the update last year improved it alot but it still did not run right at low speeds . if you have a 08 uly i strongly recomend you get the update . | ||

Is that a second update? Mine was updated last summer. Made a world of difference. I'd ask you what version software you're running but have no idea of my own  My off-idle response got very much better and I gained about 10 MPG. | ||

A new ECM was installed to resolve my high idle problem and the latest software was installed. This was late March earl April. The low RPM performance is like night and day from where it was. I can almost let the bike idle along in traffic without it bucking and trying to die. The off idle response is drastically improved. I got 42.8 MPG on the last tank but did a lot of stop/go and city riding. I will see how it goes when I can do more highway riding in. | ||

I need the PN of this latest update. The last 4 in the sequence will do. I had the first update and there is a nice improvement, but running low speed, 2nd gear, 2600 to 3000 rpm when up to temperature, shakes the bars like an old lawnmower. I believe that this is caused when the ECM has the AFV go to a lean mix as this vibration doesn't occur for 3 to 5 minutes after the warm bike rests for a butt break. I know a lot of people say to run it between 4 and 5K RPM, but this is not an option in some tight back-roads. | ||

Typically when a service is done on a Buell, part of that service (at least on 07-earlier EFI bikes) is a TPS reset and AFV reset. As soon as a bike is plugged into the Digital Technician, and the VIN is recognized, a prompt will show up if there are updates available for the bike. To answer the question directly - the updates are provided free of charge if there are customers with driveability issues. There is no specified method of checking/updating unless there's a complaint - part of the "if it ain't broke" mentality, which I personally subscribe to. On my '06, it's running fine...so I don't mess with it. My recommendation is, if you are having drivability issues (or if you're just OCD and have to have the latest piece of software in your bike regardless of how it's running), *ask* that checking for ECM updates be an event on your repair order. It takes about 2.5 minutes to check for updates, the tech can do that while the bike is cooling off after the road test. If there's an update, it takes about six minutes to upload, reprogram, verify, and lock the program into the bike. You can also ask for a printout; there's an option to print a "receipt" if a flash is done. (Message edited by ratbuell on May 03, 2009) | ||

FWIW- After I'd had my 09 Uly for a short time, I took it in to the dealer for the 1k and asked if they could check things out-I wasn't getting very good gas mileage. Lo and behold, there was a reflash already available for my bike. Worth noting: This happened in early January. I was shocked to see a reflash out so quickly. | ||

This weekends trips yielded 46.2 MPG. I can live with that considering the low end is vastly improved after installation of the new ECM. The bike runs great! | ||

9_ford. What is the production date on your bike. It can be found next to the forks a date/month. Mine is May 08 and they told me there is on update. I'd assume yours is earlier? | ||

I got updated new 08 European software and seems a little better but still puffing on idle and has a big acceleration hole around 4K RPM's....Maybe new pipe will do as "old" one with 2K miles( two months old bike) looks bad ....very bad and rusty ... | ||

i think the re flash is only for earlier 08 production dates my early scg had a reflash and my later ully didnt.. | ||

sorry for the late reply , my bike is # 342 built in september 07 which is a 2008 model year . I do not know what the new ecm # is . my bike only has a slight flat spot at around 4000 rpm if your slowly speeding up , but it is probably caused by the jardine can i installed . before i took it out of storage i installed the can and it went directly to the dealer so i cannot comment how it works with the exhaust cable hooked up on the origional exhaust . the acuator is still plugged in though . old ecm last letter was a "y" the one before that was a "o" . I did not get the latest ecm # . I will try to find out (Message edited by #9 ford on May 07, 2009) | ||

Interesting. I have the 'y' in my '08. That seems to indicate there is a newer one still. ...now to spend the next several weeks convincing the morons at the dealership to take 3m and plug my damned bike in. Oy. | ||

It did on mine. However, all grounds were removed and cleaned as part of the high idle problem that ultimately resulted in the ECM replacement. I do not know if it was the ECM alone or if the grounds helped. Removing and cleaning grounds is a minor fix and I believe worth the effort. | ||

I had the ECM flash update a couple of months ago. I think I am seeing some improvement in gas mileage; but my speedometer is now off by 3 - 4 mph. | ||

Had my garmin on the bike last weekend and noticed my speedo indicates 3-4 mph high as well. maybe it will save from a ticket or two. | ||

The offset varies, but at 75 indicated the gps shows 72. Indicated is approximately 4% lower than actual. So that would certainly decrease the mileage by around 4%. However, I did remember that the Buell technician had the bike on the dyno when trouble shooting the high idle problem mentioned the speed indicated higher than their dyno. The indicated speed my have always been off. Just not sure since I just installed the GPS. Is there a way to calibrate the indicated speed? | ||

The odometer is still accurate regardless of the indicated speed. I have confirmed it several times. | ||

I got 3 odometers and 3 speedometers on my bike, they are all within a 10th of a mile of each other including comparing my old car. My route home from my dad's gas station is about 24.4 miles, and all 3 of my onboard readouts are almost identical, with the GPS being the odd ball that ends up occasionally being a full mill off. My car agrees with the bike readouts. | ||
