Permatex Never-Seize, yes the same stuff that's used on the axles. Wipe on thin layer and then ride until smoking hot. Burns off the volatiles and you are left with just the silver-look. Yeah, it stays put. Container says it's good to 1600 F. Won't peel off or chip off. If you get sick of it then you can scrub it off. I did the whole muffler a few weeks ago and did a small area of a pipe next to the head. Found that once it burned off the volatiles that you could wipe your finger on it and finger stayed clean.

Pics of the muffler? Looks good, I may have to try it too. Did you wipe it on with a rag or exactly how did you apply it so that its even?

Permatex container comes with a brush. So I brushed and wiped on with a cloth. Apply to pipes sparingly and evenly with a cloth.

The muffler I brushed it on pretty thick and that kind of shows but I only put it on their to kill the rust. If you do put it on the muff then for better looks you should wipe it down to a nice even thin layer. A little goes a very long ways. Hands will clean up easily with Dawn type dishwashing or liquid laundry soap.

Photos of the muffler are here. Like I said, not real pretty because I left it in the slathered on state that I applied it. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442496.html?1238283695

Looks pretty darn good! So its the "Never-seize" version of Permatex ? I have the anti seize lubricant I use on the spark plugs, but doesn't appear to be the same stuff. I'll run it down at the NAPA store. So how long does it have to 'cook' before you wipe it off ? Well done as opposed to medium rare ?

I was in jail once and this guy across the
cells said to me "I wonder what your ass would look like with K-Y
"slathered" all over it?"

I don't like the word "slathered"!

Choyashi,
Just for you, next time I'll use "buggered" instead of slathered.

YIKES ! I think i like slathered better. I didn't know you could purchase K-Y while in jail. thought it would be considered contraband. So he was probably bluffing...wasn't really going to use any.

Jphish,
I don't know how long it will last. It's like putting wax on a paint job, it probably won't last forever but you just re-apply. Wipe some on and if you get sick of it then scrub or power wash it off. It only takes a few bucks and a few minutes to apply and then take the ULY for a ride. I think it looks kind of cool and you surely can't beat the price.

Humph. I like blue better, but it was a LOT more expensive.

The silver looks kinda...uh, "ghostly."

Opinions are like...and I've got one too. I actually like the heat blued look of the stock pipes. It just looks right to me. The rusty muffler I could do without....

Thanks Electraglider - I like the 'ghostly' silver look & the scrub off option if ya want to change back to a rusty, discolored pipe. j

I actually got a compliment on my pipes by a Harley Ultra rider this afternoon. He thought it looked much better than blued pipes and I think he thought maybe he could do it over the chrome bluing on his bike. I really doubt that would be a good idea or that it would even stick since chrome is a far cry from the porous nature of our stainless steel pipes.

Nice look EG! I think I'll have to try that. My pipes have looked like crap since I removed the wrap and I've been too lazy to re-wrap. This could be just the ticket.
