OK - For you experienced PR2 users, Question: MCSS offers the tire with 2 designations - Rear 180/55ZR-17 in an A or B. The front in a 120/70ZR-17 plain, or D. Whats the difference, and what is the right one for the Uly ?? Inquiring minds... Thanks all. j

I didn't even know there were two PR2 rears. I like those tires (don't have them fitted currently) but I have no idea about the A/B.

One is a sticky "sport" compound and the other is more of a "sport-tour" compound according to my tire guy. He did not say which was which, however! Both are dual compound technology.

This is interesting. I am about to buy a new rear tire myself. I just went out to see if my current PR2 had such a designation on it. I could not find any marking with and A or B. How would you know which one you had?

I do really like this tire. Almost 9000 miles on it, superior handling.

Usually the standard designation is none, while the "modified" version will have a letter change, usually to designate a construction change specified by a manufacturer for OEM fitment.
Sorry, I don't have any specific PR2 info in this case.

The B designation if for the heavy bikes such as the BMW 1200s and FJR1300. The A designation, I haven't heard of, and can't find any references to.

As to the fronts, the only alternative PR2 I can find is the OEM Tiger tire.

Are you sure they are not talking about Pilot RACE instead of Pilot ROAD?

Michelin website does list several different compounds for the Pilot Race 2 (including a 2CT dual compound choice), but only 1 listing for Pilot Road 2 in each size.

Alrighty Then...Here's what the MCSS technical support folks said (Darin actually)- The PR2s come in B=BMW, C=Tiger, Plain=all others including Uly. Also have a 'D' front tire for the Tiger - again, the Uly takes the plain version (no letter designation) The Michelin web site does NOT recommend the PRs, only PR2s (dual compound) tires for the Uly. Apparently the mileage of the PR2 is superior to the PRs. Which is primary reason why we would consider the Michelins in the first place. I liked the syncs & Distanzias, just need more mileage on a 10K predominatly paved road ride. Sent an email to Michelin for clarification of the B,C,D designation, if any needed. Will post response if/when reply recieved. Thanks all. 'Chow' j

Articktm - The Pilot Road 2 is also a 2CT (Dual Compound Technology) It's all very confusing as the MCSS web site mentions the B,C,D designations, but not entirely consistant with the Michelin site. The ting they both DO agree on is the ULY takes a 'plain Jane' NO LETTER version of the PR2 in our sizes. Now I can order them. j

Thank you for doing the research on that. My first PR2, that I now have nearly 9,000 miles on, has really impressed me. I feel, and have seen, that these tires do actually handle better than the Syncs, which had been my tire of choice since they came out.

They work very well in the rain also. The only place I have seen that they are behind the Syncs is on wet grass and mud.

I still have a Sync on the front, as it was almost brand new when I put the PR2 on the back. It has worked well as a combination and that front is about 4,000 miles from its end.
