Been lurking around here for quit sometime now..Finally made the jump from my 2007 Suzuki v-strom 1000 to a 09 Uly,of course it appears blue, but the dealer threw in my awesome soon to be BLACK color that is on order,so I'll have both colors to choose from.. I put on 10,000 miles on my suzuki w/out any problems what so ever, hoping I will have the same good luck w/the Uly as well..I only have 50 miles on the Uly, but this machine so far stands alone, different from any other bike I've riden, that's what has drawn me to it. Just so much more fun to ride

I came from a Suzuki VX800 that had 96k on it with good reliability. My 06 Uly is 3yrs old with 60k on it now. It has been a great ride so far. It just works great on so many levels. Congratulations and may you have a great experience with yours.

Sweet! I sold my 02 V strom for an 06 Uly. Zero regrets.

As a new Uly rider myself all I can say it that it keeps getting better. This bike is as much fun as my YZF R6, but I can do it much longer. and two-up if I want. ENJOY

Welcome to the sickness. Went to the IMS show in Minneapolis on Saturday-I sat a bunch of bikes, nothing feels as good as the Uly. It sure satisfies my grin factor.

That thing looks awesome...takes me back to when my '06 was brand-new (bought it in early July 2006)...no luggage, no nothing, just the bike. There was/is nothing like it. A pure, un-farkled Uly is probably the gnarliest, yet most architecturally interesting-looking bike made in the last three years.

I made the switch from a Suzuki to a Uly too - a bit differently, though. I started my riding career on a Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic cruiser, and loved it. Then I wanted to try the sporting side of things, so I added a Suzuki GSX-F600 Katana, and thought it was fun. But my skills and interests were ready for more - I needed an upgrade to more power, more luggage, more safety, more flexibility, and more originality...I wanted a bike that would both cruise, race, tour, and do it all with 100% uniqueness.

Buell Ulysses.

(Well, six months later I DID buy a single-seat Harley with mini-ape hangers, because it's still a RIOT to cruise the streets of DC and the nearby country roads on a piece of matte-black metal with a big engine and a seat.)

(Now I want an 1125CR for the same reason, except for a totally different feel. Maybe in the next couple years.)

All bikes

Welcome aboard Idaho! You made a great choice in the Uly. Got mine back in Sep 06 and havent had any issues with it, other than self induced ones of course. Been 30 some odd years since Ive been in Meridian, glad to hear from someone back in the old country.

Congrats.....I traded my home built chopper straight across for a new 06 Uly and it's been great except for the local dealer service. They suck to say the least. Instead of fixing my problem they created another one. it'a a local Tacoma dealer.

Firstbuell:
I bought my 90 VX in 95 with 30k miles on it. Rode it until Jan 06 when I got my Uly. It had 96k on it then. In the time I had it the only time it left me stranded was when the voltage regulator shorted and killed all electrical power. That was a relatively cheap fix (and supposedly pretty common). It was short legged; 6000 rpm at 80 indicated (about 73 actual)mph. The Uly spins at 4000 rpm at the same indicated (and faster actual) speed.
When I was done with it the engine had significant oil leaks that would have been expensive to fix. The swing arm bushings wore out a couple of times. The driveshaft u-joint was stiff. Suzuki never sold a seat skin for it.
Generally, it was reliable and nice to ride. Not fast or quick handling, but very stable. Fuel range was adequate; mileage was less than the Uly (everything's mileage is less than the Uly).
Best points: Reliable, competent without being flashy, pleasant styling (to me).
Worst points: It's Japanese. Parts are very expensive ($40 air filters- takes 2). Limited model run means few aftermarket parts available.
The last time I rode it was about a month after getting the Uly and just prior to sending it to its new home. After one month on the Uly I was amazed at how foreign it felt! The Uly was effortless to ride- felt light as a feather compared to the VX.
It was a good bike, but I'm thrilled (still) with my Uly ( 3yrs 3wks and 61k mi).

Rmcconnell33,winter has been a bit long,I've been getting in some short 20 milers here and there, most of it due to a new bike....I have several things ordered @ High Desert, waiting for arrival..So I'm slowly dialing in the bike so I'll be ready for some nicer weather..
