The 1125R's cruising range is about the same as the Uly.

It would take my '06 to be totaled before I'd trade it in. I'm a "show me don't tell me" kind of guy in many ways, and would really have to test ride an '09 before I'd say it's so much better and worth the expense of starting over on loan payments, etc. Hell, my front end is still kind of crooked from my deer strike, and I think I'm liking it that way.

Let it be clear though, that I will always have a Uly. I've made that decision - unless someone makes something that pushes my buttons better than Buell.

Eh...fuel range isn't an issue as long as the thing will go 100 miles on a tank.

When I ride, I typically stop every 100 miles or so to stretch my legs, get some water, etc.

Most of the folks I ride with can only go 100 to 120 miles on a tank, so I'm stopping anyway.

Recently passed 3 years of ownership and 60k miles. I try to rationalize different bikes all the time, but they all come up short for my intended use.
1- It's paid for. Nothing else touches that.
2- Maintenance is a breeze and cheap, too.
3- It still pins the grin-o-meter whenever I want it to (and sometimes when I'm not trying).
4- Gets great economy (albeit on premium fuel).
5- Still the most overall comfortable bike I've ever spent quality time on.
6- Has that unique and rare "character" that many have opined about.
Overall I don't think I could be persuaded to trade it. I don't see enough improvements in the later ones to rate a trade-in. Ask me in 2 more years with (hopefully) 100k mostly trouble free miles on the clock.

It would have to be a completely revamped bike for me to get a new one. I don't love paying the sales tax or the higher licensing fees for a new bike. What's a new ULY going to do better than what my 06' already does? Mine supposedly will do 135 miles per hour and I've never taken mine even to 100 mph. It's only been off road to get to a campsite which was never over 100 yards off the gravel. I'd like a lower first gear in a six speed and more gas capacity would be a plus. Like I said, it would have to be so much better that I could not help myself from plunking down the dough. Until then, I'll be content with the 06', no problema.

So I'm not the only "collector" here huh ? I still have my minibikes from the 70's. Chopped and chromed with Maltese Cross tail lights from the 70's. When I find the bettery charger for the camera I'll get some pics up.

So the general complaints seem to be:
1 - 6 speed transmission (lower first gear).
2 - More fuel range.

I my 08 got 60 mpg, I would be happy with the limited tank size.m But since I seem to be stuck on 41 MPG - the range could become an issue in remote places. Not that I have ever taken this bike to a remote place (yet), but if I did do the Alaska trip, I would have to rig some kind of extra fuel.

That said, an new ULY is going to cost about $4000 over what I could sell my 08, and I could get some spare gas cans, make some brackets, for about $100.

I have to agree with many here. I am reserved to the fact that the next bike I get will be in another class all together than the Uly. I like the bike that much. Three years, five months and nearly 40k miles and I wouldn't trade it for anything in its class. That is why I am looking at other bikes. A true dual sport, pure sport bike, touring bike or heck a Ural. Something that will compliment the stable because there is now way any one bike can replace the Uly except another Uly. Since mine is paid for, there is little hope of that until this one is one tire in the grave.

the 1125 gets around 35 mpg if you cruise , lower if you ride normal. I'm getting 50mpg ... so the range certainly isn't the same as I see it... Its not drastic...60 miles per tank? but it is definately different. The 1125 is thirsty. Or should I say the 1125 is normal , the ULY is a sipper.

60 miles per tank !!! I get that out of my old Triumph with a sporty tank on it mounted at an angle near 45 degrees.
