My exhaust actuator/horn fuse blew. Replaced the fuse and now all is fine. Well, all appears to be fine, I don't believe fuses just decide to blow for no reason. Anyone have this problem before and know a root cause? | ||

Possibly a short? I would take at all the wiring, perhaps it rubbed through. | ||

It's definitely a short. I'm just hoping someone knows where to look. I vaguely recall other people having this problem, so it may be a known issue. | ||

Well, the good news is, all the electrical for those two items should be up top - the only thing that drops down to the muffler is the actuator cable. I know. Less than helpful  | ||

When the exhaust valve get's stuck it will blow the fuse. Un stuck it by working it back and forth. | ||

Un stuck it by working it back and forth. uhm the cable and not the actuator right? I think it is possible to damage the actuator by manually moving it 'by hand'. | ||

Jim my fuse blew about six months ago during starting. I was in a hurry and hopped on and my foot slipped a bit on some oil. I didn't fall but I did manage to activate the turn signal, brakes, horn, starter and roll the throttle half way all at the same time. Good thing the bike doesn't have windshield wipers too!  All I did was replace the fuse and everything's been fine sense. (Message edited by unibear12r on December 13, 2008) | ||

I did manage to activate the turn signal, brakes, horn, starter and roll the throttle half way all at the same time. It's always just when I start to believe that I can actually pull of the cool biker thing that I will do something like that. | ||

I'm not sure what cause's the fuse to blow but I've replace 6 in the 38k miles I've owned mine. Every few thousand like clockwork it blows a fuse. As a matter of fact I had one go out 2 weeks ago. Don't mind it so much in the summer, but this time of year it gets dark before I get home and the loss of the rear brake light in rush hour is worrisome. I have started to look at this problem as routine maintenance. Took it to the dealer early on but they claimed they couldn't find anything wrong. Truth be told, I don't think they looked very hard, if at all. It almost always seems to happen whenever I stop for gas. The bike is working fine when I pull up to the pump and shut the engine off. However, when I try to restart I notice the check engine light remains lit and the horn and brake light don't work. I've played around with the cable and wire harness trying to reproduce the problem, but haven't had any luck. My workaround has been to buy a 10 pack of fuses and replace them as they blow. I must say this is the first vehicle (2 or 4 wheels) that I've owned that has blown a fuse. |
