As a newbie to BWB I just wanted to say hi and ask a question. Am I the only one who has had a reliable, trouble free ULY? I've been visiting this forum for a while, just to brouse around and have heard all about the problems with these bikes. Bearing, belts, clutch cables, wiring harnesses, instrument clusters and so forth. I've had my 06 XB12X for a few years now, I've taken it off road and on many a long distance excursion with no problems. 20,000 miles on it now. Well, I did drop my bike in the mud in the rain soaked mountains of CO. The silt in the mud heated and melted the belt. The belt never failed, but I had it replaced anyway just as a precaution. Anyway, I'd like to hear from the members who havn't had any problems with thier bikes because I sure see alot from those who have. |

My 2006 ULY just turned 16,000 miles. Only two issues (other than the recalls): stator at 2500 miles license plate light feel off last weekend I consider it pretty much a trouble free bike. |

The web tends to magnify problems. Take the problem with my bike's wiring harness for example. A visitor to this site might conclude that the wiring harness was a problem on all Ulys but in truth I only know of mine and two others that have had this problem. That would only be a fraction of a percent of all Uly's. And when a Uly is working right there is nothing that beats it. |

No problems with my 06 that haven't been self-inflicted! |

Only 4200 miles but no issues whatsoever. Just push the button, wait a few minutes and drive away!!! Day, after day, after day. |

I haven't logged the miles you all have since corporate travel policy changed. I have not however had any real problems. One of the brackets on the seat broke but Buell replaced it asap. Other then that runs great, I'm not even close to the 10 K though. |

I'm pushing 13k miles on my Uly. I've had the following issues and most of them have been associated with the wiring. I was able to rectify the wiring issues myself. The fan was replaced under warranty. It never actually failed it just rattled. I also think some of my wiring issues were due to a sloppy mechanic trying to repair the Aux Jack. Broken Ground Wire to Aux Jack. Broken Ground Wire behind Light Chaffed wires on ECM Connector. Replaced Cooling Fan. These have been mostly minor issues and have in no way, limited my enjoyment of the bike. |

Just over 5k on my 07 and no issues here. I just start it and ride. Even my old SV1000 had a fork oil leak by now, so I guess this bike has been more reliable so far. |

Some maintenance items for sure in the last 18000 miles on the 06, but I WILL buy another one. |

Almost 11,000 on my '06 and no problems aside from the washer-on-the-battery-post trick. My Uly seems to attract deer, however, but that's a whole different issue. |

I think forums like these can be deceiving in a way - people post with a problem, for the most part, and don't when they don't have one. So it often seems as if there are zillions of problems going on, when actually, our bikes are no worse than the best bikes out there - perhaps even better. (actually, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about - but it seems to make sense, in a circular logic kinda way) . |

Am I the only one who has had a reliable, trouble free ULY? No you are not. But no one comes to the internet and posts "the bike is running great today." |

My bike is a piece of sh!t! It is sitting in my garage in 400 pieces while I install HID lights. Stupid wiring is too long at some parts and too short at others. Now my piece of shit cars battery died because it sat untouched for the last 2 months, so I got not way to get to radioshack to pickup wire strippers and solder! Grr I wouldn't be in this mess if my damn low beam bulb didn't blow down in Georgia! Screw you Buell, I am gonna trade in for a nuclear powered bike, that way the glow of the reactor lights the road and I wouldn't need these pesky unreliable things called headlights!

Other than running low on gas all the time my bike has been fantastic. I've had it for 3 years now and can't think of another bike I'd rather have. Seriously! |

Almost done, these things are awesome. I effed up something, my high stays on but my lowbeam is controlled by the highbeam switch! oops To be honest, its not hard. The hard part is shoving everything under the flyscreen. |

55k '06. Clutch cable, front mount, oil cooler, rear wheel bearings, chafed fuel pump wiring. Did I forget anything? Oh yeah- 5 rear tires and 3 fronts. I'm sure the tire bill is more per mile than all the repairs! Not trouble free, but it sure is fun! |

My 06 is going on 23,000 miles only replaced the front isolator and then had to replace my clutch cable, but that was more my fault than the bikes. Tires have been the most cost to the bike, but that is because I keep riding the crap out of this thing. The harder you ride this bike the more it rewards you. Can't complain a bit about my owner experience.

...my battery has a hard time cranking those big-assed pistons around when it's really cold out, does that count? My Uly has some of the ubiquitous low-RPM roughness, but it's not enough to keep me from loving the bike. I'm considering selling the Firebolt...just doesn't seem much cause to ride it anymore, even though I love it to death. |

Carbonsteel, I'm glad you asked that question. I test rode an '08 UlyXT and absolutely loved it but this forum had pretty much convinced me to look elsewhere. I'm sure the V-Strom is a good bike but the Uly handled and rode better than anything I'd rode before. ... I wonder if that red one is still at the dealer |

I know a dealer or 2 that have some 09 XT's in stock. Appleton HD is a sponsor here and they have one and it would be a nice ride home. I have had no problems other than a lack of time to get out and ride recently. Put on over 900 miles the first week I had it. Mine is still too new but I love the thing. |

My 34,000 mile '06 has been a piece of crap. I have had several of the problems that you have read about and a few that were not mentioned. I post my problems for the same reason most of those before me have. You can't fix and find a lot of these things without discussion and testing. I have kept my bike through the crap because of a pretty good dealer, this BadWeb, and the cutting edge help and interaction I have received here. Several times my bike has coughed, choked, or puked for one reason or another. I have always found a resolution here among these good people. When my bike was under warranty, being a new model year, I could come here and find the fix, then take the idea to the dealer so they wouldn't have to do a bunch of empty handed research that Buell Mo Co hadn't even found was needed yet. On the other hand I had a new '05 City-X, first model year machine. 13,000 miles in a year with no warranty issues. I only sold that bike because the Uly came out. After I got the Uly the City-X sat for three months in the shed and had only been out once. I love riding this Uly. I have no plans on getting a new one in the for-see-able future. It is still an awesome ride. |

My 06 has not been trouble free but with the help of folks on this site and others I've cured all the problems. The folks that don't have any problems are all out riding the crap out of their machines instead of seeking advise!! I love my Uly as it was made for me. Most fun I've ever had on two wheels! I've been amazed at the places it has taken me but in the end it's a mechanical device and mechanical things can break, I know, I fix mechanical things for a living and sheet does happen!! |

uhm the fan passed away at 24k but other than that the real problem seems to be tire consumption .... but that could be my fat a$$, fair compensation for miles of smiles. |
