Hi,

I want to pull my fuel pump to do some preventative maintenance on the fuel pump wires like mentioned in this thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/281892.html. I have two new fuel pump to frame O rings and a new fuel drain plug.

I was looking at my manual last night and it looks like I need to remove the left side passenger foot peg assembly, the rear wheel I think and the lower shock bolt to be able to lower the swingarm(thanks for that tip Adrian_8). What I haven't seen mentioned here is the need to use a pump puller tool as mentioned in the manual.

Has anyone else who has done this been able to easily pull the pump without the Buell tool? Any other tips to do this?

Thanks

Sorry about the misspelling of fuel. I'm a bit dyslexic with my typing.

Dont need the tool. Comes out pretty easy with a small pick/screwdriver type device.

Had to have mine towed from work again today. Bike started, idled very rough and would not travel under load. RPM's would drop out and check engine light flickered on and off. Finally, cycling the kill switch to the on position produced nothing. No cycling of the fuel pump or lighting of the check engine light. Not sure if this is indicative of the fuel pump, ecm, or something else. It was raining a little at the time so I didn't pull the seat and check the fuses. It's at the Dealer and they probably won't get to it for a couple of days.

Fourth time towed since Feb 07. Sucks to be me.

Glenn-
If you can't wiggle it loose by hand you can install a 1/4"-20 bolt by about 1" or 1-1/2" long with a large flat washer under the bolt head and use a long pry bar to GENTLY pry the pump loose. There is a threaded hole in the pump body for the factory tool to attach to. Don't let it bind by getting misaligned as it loosens- the sealing surface for the pump o-rings is the frame! Don't want to nick it or mar it in any way. Should come out of the frame pretty easily.

Thanks Paul,

The 1/4"-20 bolt, fender washer, small block of wood and a small pry bar worked great.

I got it all fixed today. There was no sign of rubbing on the wires yet but since I've been hit with the bad bearings, broken wire in main harness affecting turn signals, clutch cable and idle adjusting cable to harness have all been affected; I wanted to catch this before things happened.
