Question for those of you who have had their muffler ceramic coated.

The muffler on my Uly is rusted pretty bad. I realize this is a Buell "feature", but I have grown tired of it. So I removed the muffler and will drop it by a local shop to have it ceramic coated.

My question is in regards to the black colored interactive exhaust pulley that the cable connects to. Have others tried to remove this pulley or just left it attached to the muffler? I'm not even sure it can be removed without damaging something. Would appreciate any comments from anyone here who has done this already.

By the way, Jet-Hot quoted me over $200 to coat the muffler. Yikes!!, that seems a tad expensive for just the muffler. A coworker then recommended a local shop that had done work for him in the past. He felt their work was superior to coatings he had done by JH. They quoted me a price of $75. That's a little more reasonable.

Dirt,
Another alternative is just to spray paint the muffler with some high temp header paint. I did mine about 2 years ago and it still looks new. Cost about $3.95 and a little time.

An XB muffler should only run about $125 +/- with Jet-Hot. I have sent numerous pipes for customers there. All are very happy. I'm sending a couple headers there soon. The valve will work just fine after being coated if you leave the cam on there.

Thanks Odie,
Love your heat blankets by the way. FYI, price quoted by Jet-Hot was $200 minus 10% discount plus $27 for shipping & handling for a total of $207. They would supply a box to ship it in for an additional $20. Too rich for me.

Bosh - Kinda makes you wonder why the factory wouldn't think of doing what you did.

I had a new can fitted as a warranty item by my dealer. He sent it to be CamCoated, (the UK equivalent of Jet Hot), and he sent a brand new can with removing the pulley.

By the way, I'm very pleased with the result!

Here is the latest pipe that I sent to them for coating (Sterling). It is there now so the price is current. This is a cut and paste from the quote I received back from them......

We'd charge $120 to coat your muffler inside and outside in the 1300 Sterling finish. Add $60 for the matte black, semi gloss black, and grey. Add $60 for blue and red (only available in NC). We'll need them here for 5-7 days plus shipping time back. If the parts are chrome or nickel plated, add $50 to the total and 2 days for stripping. Return shipping with a new box and new packaging would be about $27.
