Want to ride around Lake Superior sometime in the summer of 09.
Looking to see if any more Buell riders want to tag along?
Would be leaving from northern Wisconsin but could meet riders in Michigan.

Want to do it any sooner..like next week

I still have yet to take my journey on the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail (was supposed to leave last week for it).

I'd probably be game too for a ride around the lake.

Chris -- I was hoping you'd have your ride on the trail done before next month, what no time ??

Did this ride 3 yrs ago on my FZ1, great roads and beautiful landscape. We came around from the Canadian side. Around the lake into Wisconsin and then across the Mackinaw into Michigan. There are some great side roads just off the bridge, I believe the 119, do'em if you have a chance.

That is something that we can look into if a lot of people would like to do that.
But as for me.....I think the wife will only let me do one of them.

So far there is around 8 people interested.
I know it's way early but does anyone have a preference on dates or how many days you want to spend riding?

I just whipped out the calculator and it's 1100 miles, depending on which of the side routes you take.
It would be fun to do over a few days (I've never been able to make time with a group).
Since I live 1000 miles away, I'll have to pass unless I hit the Lottery.

I'm in, (with the wife's permission of course). Anyone around or passing thru the Madison, WI area would be welcome to ride up North with me too. I kind of like a Thur-Mon time frame, if I may be so bold to suggest.

I've been trying to get my family to do this run for about 4yrs, they all want to do Sturgis every year instead.

How cool would it be to have a bunch of Buells run the Lake? "Storm the Lake, 09"
Get it? Storm, like a Thunderstorm, like a Thunderstorm engine. . oh nevermind.

The wyfe and I are riding to the Very Boring Rally II in Duluth on thursday. I'll post some pics and ride reports when I gets back.

We won't be circumnavigating the lake, but we do plan to spend at least a day in and around the Superior National Forest. And then another day or so on the Wisconsin side on the way back.

I did Route 61 from Duluth, MN to Thunder Bay, Ont. this summer. It's a very scenic ride. Northwoods wilderness on one side and Lake Superior on the other. One interesting thing is that the temperature would fluctuate 25 deg.F every five minutes due to the lake and wind direction. Sorry, no pics. You'll just have to see for yourselves.

I might be up for this. This of course depends on my work schedule, my family schedule, etc as I am sure is the same for most everyone else (if I had no other commitments I am all in).

I would be coming up from Kalamazoo, MI. Would anyone else be coming up from MI?

My son and I would be interested in tagging along. Would it be camping, hoteling, or both? I'm for camping if the nights are cool. Hate warm nights in tents.

Larry - I'd be coming from SE Michigan. If it works out for ya we could meet up somewhere for the ride to wherever we meet everyone else. ; )

1100 miles - it'd be nice to stretch that over 3-4 days. Then we could take plenty of 'sideways' jaunts or have time for a nice dinner/campfire without feeling rushed. Those of us coming from a little farther away would likely make it a 5-6 day trip overall, then. One day up, 3-4 around the lake, one day back.

My uncle did this last year on his Old Wing with a buddy and it took them 3 days from Northern WI. They didn't push hard and did very little night riding. They didn't make any side road jaunts but they did say it was cold in the mornings. Canada side it was 45F at 8am and 70F by noon which they weren't quite prepared for. He loved the trip though and talks highly about it everytime I see him. I think they went in September but not sure I will get some more info from him this weekend.

I would be up for this also just need to finish up the purchase of one black UlyXT. May even be able to recruit a few more non-Buellers.

This is what I would like to do. And this not even close to being set in stone.
Leave on a WED morning (I live about 40Mins south of Duluth in WI)

1.Leave my house and ride to Copper Harbor,MI and back to Houghton,MI. (EST. 358 miles)

2.Houghton to Sault Ste Marie. (EST. 343 miles)

3.Sault Ste Marie to Marathon or Terrance Bay (EST. 265 to 317 miles)

4.Marathon/Terrance Bay to Thunder Bay (EST. 132 to 184 miles)

5. Thunder Bay to Duluth/Home (EST. 156 to 200 miles)

I don't know how everyone else feels but the last thing I want is to be rushed and would like to take my time in Canada, there are some parks and what not I would like to stop at.
I really don't want to ride at night in Canada either. The last thing I want to run into is a 1000 pound moose.

I would really like to stay in motels too.
Like EJC said....The temps can drop 25 deg. in a matter of seconds and the last thing I want to do is freeze!!!!

But like I said, this is not set in stone.

And not that anyone on here has one, but if you have had a DUI......chances are you are not getting across into Canada

Soo to Wawa might be a better bet, they have a small town w/motel.Last time I passed Marathon there was nothing,Been about 15yers.The ride sounds great.Im 160mi from the Soo.Supertoon is right on about 119 just so. of Mackinaw bridge, think deals gap for 25mi.1 1/2lane.Its called the tunnel of trees.I would meet you some where near the Soo and ride up and around.I believe you need a passport or birthcert to get into or out of Canada.
