I have been drooling over the Scorpion Exo 1000 for a bit now. The fit is awesome, the options are excellent, and the colors available are decent. Anyone have one or think there is a better helmet out there for the price??? How are they for wind noise?

I have an EXO-700 and discovered that after a couple of months I had headaches on long rides from poor fit. That is not the helmets fault. However I bought a new Arai and the first thing I noticed is how much less wind buffeting compared to the Scorpion. |

I have the ex700 and love it. Fit, form, function for $200 is unbeatable. Replaceable parts are awesome. I have an Aria XD and never wear it anymore. I wear earplugs. (Message edited by irelage on August 07, 2008) |

I used to have a Scorpion EXO-700. Great helmet. It sacrificed itself to save my face. I've got a Shoei X-11 now. But I too am in the market for another helmet. Considering the Scorpions and maybe the Sharks

After a conversation with an insurance adjuster who assesses motorcycle crashes and also rides, I went with the Shark. The honeycomb construction is said to be especially protective, it's VERY light, good fit and acoustics (although I still wear ear plugs) and I love the 3mm face shield. Expensive, but heavily discounted online. |

My friend bought one of those GMax helmets. Value is through the roof! But it seems kind of cheap on the inside. But for the price, you can't beat the features. LED blinkers on the back. Huge vents. Breathguard. Chin cover. Plus some cool designs. For the price, it's waaay better than what you get with the HJC value helmets. http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/GMax_GM68_Grap hic_Full_Face_Helmet_Crusader_WhiteRed--633118.htm l This was the helmet he got. There are more on Kneedraggers. |

Arai XD or Shoei Hornet DS. I gave my Arai QuantumII to my brother and won't be missing it. The XD and Hornet offer a much greater field of vision and provide minimal buffeting on the Uly. Earplugs are a must with any helmet and these two certainly benefit from wearing quality earplugs. NUTS |

Shoei RF1000 for me - great fit for my head and no buffeting with short shield. Noise is very acceptable but like most I where earplugs. |

I also have a Gmax GM68. Very nice, very cheap, very comfortable, comes with clear and tinted visors, bag for helmet and spare visor, and even a tinted cover for the light bar. Interior comes out easy for cleaning. I will post a full review someday |

I have both a Scorpion EXO 700 and a Shoei RF1000. I prefer the RF1000 to the EXO. I find the RF1000 to be a bit lighter. quieter, and with less buffeting. However the difference is minimal and they are both very good helmets. T too like the color of the EXO, especially the matching color of the cheek pads and bought that helmet to match my track day leathers. In the past I used Arai's and was very pleased with them also. After shaving my head the Arai's no longer fit as well as the Shoei. You should try them all on and buy the one you find most comfortable. Wearing a 1 hour helmet on a 4 hour ride is not something you'll want to do more then once or twice. |

Nustosane, how long have you had your Arai XD? Is it the new XD3? I am sort of jacked about that helmet since seeing the issue of Fuell with the XT on the cover. The riders had black XD3 helmets. At $500, I was hoping that the highway noise would be minimal. Color options are limited to the basic black, white and silver too. There are imported XD3 on Ebay with awesome graphics. One of the local dealers thought those may be available domestically soon. The import version is an Arai TX Motard Helmet. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem =&item=260234947623&rd=1 It seems like a super light helmet and nice to wear with the sheild up or down. Your opinions are appreciated. |

I have an EXO-1000. So far the helmet has been great. It's a little heavier than the RF-1000, but it hardly buffets at all at speed. I really like the flip down shades too. It saves me from being caught at night with a tinted shield. |

HJC Syn Max II and Nolan N Comm 102 Both are flip front, and are in the same price park. Nolan seems to be a more solid helmet, however, we have been dissapointed with the wireless stuff, but that does not count against the helmet. The HJC is the new generation, however, the chin strap is starting to fray, after on 2,000 miles or so. Good Luck YRMV |

Hornet-great fit, quiet enough, nice chinbar addition, light smoke shield is $82! Less draft below the chinbar and into your eyes. XD-better fit, quiet enough, no chinbar addition(for cooler weather), better visor as it covers more and doesn't cause any more buffeting than the Hornet. Arai makes the highest quality helmets I have ever tried and the linings just fit the NUTSTER like my couch at home. I use the XD with dark smoke shield for road riding and carry a pair of googles in case I get stuck out at night. The Hornet gets used for cooler DS rides on my thumper and as a backup should guests want to ride. I don't see the need to unload $500 for the new Arai XD3 as the combination I have is better than ONE new helmet. I bought the Hornet new from someone who got the wrong size-$300 I bought the XD used for $250 with 2 shields. Wouldn't hesitate to buy a used, good conditioned helmet for a savings and purchase a whole new interior. NUTS |

Schuberth C2 in the winter and Shoei RF-1000 for the summer. Schuberth is bullet-proof, warmer, and has the cool flip-down shade. The Shoei is lighter and has great flow. I recommend both. |

I don't think you'll be disappointed in that choice, as long as you want a full face unit. Ventilation is excellent as well. |

I've got the EXO-400 (neither the 700 or 1000 fit my head). Previously had an Arai Profile. Very comfortable and great deal for the price. |

Santa bought me a HD FXRG carbon kevlar helmet for xmas. I love it. light (3 lbs) and comfortable. Don't know the HJC equivalent (AC-12?), but I'm sure they are less expensive. |

Well I just wanted to post a quick review of the RSR2. My favorite brown truck delivered my lid today and I was impressed just pulling it out of the box. The graphics are impressive and it is very light. I was concerned about weight because I have been previously using the HD FXRG Carbon (HBC) which is very light. I choose the Shark because I was searching for a helmet which vented well and was also quiet. Well the Shark gets two thumbs up for venting and quiet. However, I have been more impressed at its ability to slice through the air. I never realized how much my head buffeted in my old helmet compared to the Shark. I was just a little concerned about spending so much money on a helmet. After a spirited ride this afternoon I feel like it was money well spent. I will follow up in the coming weeks with more long term feed back. (Message edited by pullmesideways on August 12, 2008) |

Once you use a flip front you will not be interested in anything else...it is nice to spit outside the helmet and to be able to drink and talk normally at a quick stop...I have the HJC Syl Max.. |

+1 on the GMAX ... for my mongo head, the 3XL is almost as roomy as the HJC CL15 in 3X. Vents pretty well and all those steps in the shield work nicely. |

Anybody else be unfortunate enough to have an oval head like myself. I have tried on several different flip ups and recently sent an Aria XD3 back. I currently wear an Aria RX-7RR and cannot find another helmet that fits correctly. The XD in the same size as my RX-7 was to tight front to back. |

I was a die hard Arai fan. I've owned three of them before buying an EXO-1000. So far, I'm LOVING my Scorpion. It doesn't vent as well as the Arai, and it's a bit heavier, but in every other area, it's a better helmet in my opinion. The no fog shield is PRICELESS and the quick wick liner works better than the "velveteen" type liner in the Arai. I can set the Scorpion in front of a fan at a track day, and it's totally dry by the next session. I am very very very impressed with it. It's quiet, and seems to achieve smoother airflow too. All for $306 out the door. About $150 less than I paid for my last Arai. The EXO-700 did not fit me, but I tried on Fatty's 400, and it fit me well. I've been thinking about getting a 400 for track duty since the 1000's frontal area is a bit thicker due to the integrated sun visor and when I'm in a full tuck, I have to crank my neck back further to see. |

The best helmet is the one that fits. I would go to a dealer and wear them for a period of time and make sure you are comfortable and it fits correctly. If you gotta save some $$$$$ by purchasing on the internet then at least you have the correct size. |

+1 for the EXO 700. It fit a little tight in the forehead initially for long rides. Then a Scorpion vendor at the motorcycle expo suggested washing the removable liner and check for fit. Now its fine for distance. It proved to be a quick fix for a helmet that might have been shelved. |

Buy the one that fits you best. Different manufacturers will fit different shaped heads. Wear one in the store for 20 minutes and see if you have any pressure points. Schubert fits square heads, go figure! Nolan fits oval heads well. |

I own a flip helmet, but I stopped wearing it when I realized they are not Snell rated because the chin bar may be displaced in an accident. If I am not concerned about my lower face I'll just wear a 3/4. To me the flip helmets are the worst of both worlds. Heavier than a full face, but less protection. |
