Folks-After my ride to work the other day, I need loud horn(s). Brief explanation. Perception research has shown that often the elderly when in a car cannot tell if they have stopped moving completly or not. Sometimes this leads them into drifting into an intersection from a stop sign or light. Well a peek through the steering wheel blue headed q-tip came within about 3 inches of clipping my left side bag by drifting into the intersection. My evasive action probably saved my left leg. Anyway perhaps a loud horn would have gotten its attention. So any ideas, recommendations and how you have them connected please? Pics are always helpful.

Stebel Nautilus; it will fit under the fly screen and it's still effin loud! Do a search and you'll find install examples.

+1 on the Stebel and a pre-made wiring harness with relay - it just barely tucks into the space to the left (as you face it) of where the old horn was, which makes for a tight area under the flyscreen for future wiring. I used a number of good threads on here to help with the very quick and easy install - just search on subject line "Stebel". It's so loud and interesting-sounding (two tones, like a European sportscar) that I sometimes wish I could use it more often. If you're not wearing earplugs when you ride, it will deafen you (but it might save you).

A loud horn is an absolute must for safety.

I used a FIAMM Highway blaster. You can get it in a high or low tone. It also mounted inside the flyscreen and puts out a good warning.

Stebel Nautilus in air or electric.

Just make sure you use heavy enough wire and a relay, as your factory wiring will not allow you to get enough power to it.

+1 on the FIAMM Highway blaster. Cheap, 5 min install and plenty loud.

I use the Stebel air horn. Best 40$ you can spend for your bike. Wiring kit is also idiot-proof. DON'T test it inside your garage unless you enjoy bleeding ears. Idiots in cars noticeably flinch when it sounds. Carcass-feeding vultures scatter from 1/4 mile away. I highly recommend it. PS-I have the Stebel as well as the extra wiring for the factory heated grips under the screen. It's not that bad at all.

Be careful with loud, air-style horns, though. I had dual electric airhorns on my Gold Wing and, when some twit decided to cut my off way too short to get to Wal-Mart, I blasted him.

He froze, slammed on the brakes and skidded to a stop halfway in my line and his. I left a tire mark on his driver's door, but got the bike stopped without any damage, other than to my heart.

I started with the FIAMM low and added the high. It's an easy fit and very close to the stebel on decibels. Easier install too.

Hey Orange, put up that video comparing our horns. The Fiamm is a twit compared to the Stebel.

Another Stebel install option is to separate the compressor from the horn. That cuts way down on the space needed under the fly screen. I mounted my compressor down near the oil cooler. This install is also in keeping with the Buell mass cetralization/lowering concept because the compressor is about 80% of the weight of the unit.

Dick,
That the right one; I put one on my bike and it has saved my azz a couple times here in Italy! 2nd best mod I've done to the bike (1st is the polly heaters)

This is the black trumpet type or whatever right? I had this on My ZRX. It was excellent for the city. Loud as a standard car's horn (maybe slighly less so, still louder than stock), but not freight train loud.

One a side note. You guys with the Stebel's use those things in downtown areas? I use my horn a lot to ward off drifting cagers and all sorts of other tomfoolery on the road. That said, I personally don't see the need for something so preposterously loud. If anything I would think it's counterproductive like Rainman says. Probably overkill. I guess it depends on your use I'd imagine.

Loud horns save lives.

The Stebel can be "tooted" when needed for a gentle/friendly alert.

It should be the first upgrade for any bike.

$15 for the Fiamm was mighty hard to say no to... If I need the dual, it will cost me 30 plus shipping, total. Like paying on time or layaway or something.

Does the Fiamm low require a relay? Or can I replace the existing horn with it?

The Stebel may be a bit much for round town but as it was stated you can tap the button quickly to just get a toot. On the Italian motorway at 90 mph, that's where the Stebel works it's magic; saved my azz a couple of times! Well worth the $35 I paid fo it and the 1 hour to install.

Another with the Stebel Nautilus - compact one. There's a few threads with pics of our installs. I've not bothered with the relay (lazy I know) and had no problems at all, plug & play to great effect!
